The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Specialist Program Facilitator to provide a critical role at the Loddon Prison Precinct.
About the Business Unit
Corrections Victoria - a business unit of the Department of Justice and Community Safety - implements court judgements and orders of the Adult Parole Board. It sets strategy, policy and standards for the management of the state's system of correctional facilities. It also develops programs for the management and rehabilitation of people in custody and community-based supervision orders.
Corrections Victoria manages some 50 Community Correctional Services locations across the state and is responsible for managing Victoria's 11 public custodial facilities and a transition centre, as well as overseeing the contracts relating to the management of three privately operated prisons. In doing so, Corrections Victoria delivers a safe and secure corrections system that actively engages offenders and the community to promote positive behaviour change. Loddon Prison and Middleton precinct includes two facilities, a medium risk facility (Loddon) and restricted minimum facility (Middleton). Loddon Prison and Middleton emphasises the principles of a Healthy Prison and strongly recognises cultural diversity, respecting individual religious, spiritual, and cultural beliefs.
About the Role
The Specialist Programs Facilitator will work as part of the Loddon Prison and Middleton Offender Services team to develop, implement, facilitate/deliver evidence based, psycho-educational, personal development, living skills and other non-offence specific group program interventions for prisoners, according to current correctional philosophies, legislative requirements, policies and correctional standards.
The Specialist Program Facilitator will target offenders identified as having intellectual disabilities, an acquired brain injury or other individuals with complex and targeted needs. All programs delivered aim to reduce the risk of re-offending by assisting the development of key skills to support reintegration into the community. The Specialist Program Facilitator will also have a role in behavioural management and resolving issues concerned with program participation/engagement in liaison with other stakeholders. The Specialist Programs Facilitator will work directly with people in custody and with other staff to support rehabilitation and reintegration across various cohorts, particularly people in custody with a disability or other complex needs.
As the Specialist Programs Facilitator, some of your duties will include:
* Delivering, designing facilitating psycho-educational skills based and other non-offence specific personal development programs for persons with an intellectual disability, acquired brain injury, other cognitive impairment, complex needs and/or other target cohorts such as under 25's and aged, in alignment with transition and reintegration guiding principles and frameworks.
* Recommending and contributing to overall development, implementation and evaluation of psycho-educational, personal development and other non-offence specific program delivery at Loddon Prison and Middleton, identifying gaps and proposing solutions to ensure relevant program delivery.
* Recommending and providing advice to staff on positive behaviour approaches and strategies in relation to specific individuals with disabilities or other complex needs, including providing a coaching role to other staff to appropriately support these people in our care.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
* Demonstrated experience working with people with intellectual disabilities and acquired brain injuries.
* Demonstrated experience of facilitating psycho-educational, personal development and other non-offence specific reintegration programs for individuals within a group setting.
* Demonstrated knowledge of the reducing recidivism literature and an ability to apply theory into practice.
Qualifications
* A relevant tertiary qualification in a relevant allied health discipline would be highly regarded.
