Victoria University TAFE is seeking a highly-motivated Engagement Coordinator to direct the Victorian Early Leaver Connection Initiative: Career Advice Service (VELCI CAS) alongside our dynamic team within the Skills and Jobs Centre .

About the Role

The VELCI CAS is funded by the Department of Education to provide outreach and careers advice for school-aged early school leavers to support transitions into, and continued engagement in, post-school education, training and employment pathways. The program also aims to build additional youth-focused capability and capacity into the existing Skills and Jobs Centre (‘SJC’) service offering.

The SJC based at Victoria University is responsible for managing the delivery of the VELCI CAS program and sits within the Victoria University TAFE department of ‘Business Development, Industry, Government Funding and Projects’, working with both internal and external stakeholders to deliver well-informed, client-centric, innovative and high-quality services for individuals seeking assistance with their individual career development.

The VELCI CAS Engagement Coordinator provides referred participants with targeted support to discuss all basic and more complex issues that could impact on their chosen post-school pathway and provides qualified career advice and referrals to suitable support services as required. Major responsibilities include engagement with Career Practitioners and staff at all government secondary schools in allocated Local Government Areas, delivery of customized advisory services for VELCI CAS participants, collaboration with SJC career practitioners, facilitation of targeted workshops and/or career development programs for selected VELCI CAS participants and adherence to a range of Department of Education reporting requirements.

About You

This position is suited to a highly organised and self-driven individual who is passionate about supporting the career education and development of young people.

You will be able to exercise initiative and judgement and manage multiple priorities on daily basis and your excellent communication skills, empathy, patience and problem-solving skills will see you excel in this role.

The ideal candidate will have

  • Extensive experience in the coordination and/or delivery of Career Development services, including specialised programs for young people.
  • Understanding of the Victorian Curriculum (including VCE, VCE-VM and VPC) and the VET sector with demonstrated experience in the provision of informed education, training and/or employment advice for young people.
  • Highly developed liaison and coordination skills; especially the ability to develop and utilise other services and networks to support young people.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to ensure that information provided is succinct, effective and contains required content to achieve its purpose.
  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to influence the decision of others through logical persuasion, reason and facts.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both autonomously and cooperatively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Excellent administration and record keeping skills with the ability to meet deadlines.

Conditions & Benefits

This full-time position will be offered on a fixed-term contract basis until 31st December 2026, with a salary range of $97,863 per annum to $105,932 per annum plus an employer superannuation contribution of 17%.
