THE POSITION:
To work with young people and other service providers to develop and coordinate programs for participants and to develop a range of programs and services that meets the aims of the Youth which are to create:

  • A safe accessible place for young people.
  • A place to foster youth culture, access to the arts and entertainment.
  • A place to build resilience in young people.

The Cafe project evolved from a direct request from local young people in Albury and Wodonga. The main aim of this unique service is to be inclusive of all young people 12 - 24 without targeting any particular group. AlburyCity's Youth Team aims to nurture and foster the social and cultural development of young people through music, events, activities, workshops, support groups and links with other Council and community services.


Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promote the Youth Cafe and programs to diverse young people through schools, and Youth Services and the broader community.
  • Establish and provide a range of youth focused programs from the Cafe and at other community locations that meet the needs of diverse young people within the community.
  • Undertake all procedures that relate to the operations of Retro Lane Café and Youth programs.
  • Attend relevant youth related meetings and network with service providers.
  • Seek out funding opportunities to implement ongoing youth programs and events.
  • Implement youth specific programs e.g. school holiday programs, youth leadership opportunities, educational workshops and Youth Week activities.
  • Create opportunities for youth service providers and educational providers to run programs through the cafe.
  • Work in-conjunction with other AlburyCity teams, including Learning and Outreach, Events and MAMA teams to run youth specific programs in the LibraryMuseum and across the cultural precinct.
  • Work with the Youth Development Officer to undertake evaluations of programs at the cafe to determine if they are meeting the needs of young people.
  • Monitor and review policies and procedures for the Retro Lane Youth Cafe Programs.
  • Provide an information and referral service for young people who visit the Cafe.
  • Work with the Retro Lane Cafe Supervisor to ensure effective communication and running of events and activities.
  • Develop and maintain up to date digital content for social media and the AlburyCity website promoting youth activities and programs.
  • Provide function and event management support including setting up of IT and multimedia equipment, furniture and catering, and other general set up/pack away tasks as instructed.
  • Undertake a range of administrative tasks, including monthly reporting, risk assessment, budgeting.
  • Perform other tasks or duties as directed by the Supervisor which are within the limits of the employee's skill, competence and training.
  • Observe requirements of the WHS Legislation, relevant to the job and adhere to AlburyCity Policies and Procedures regarding WHS.
  • Observe appropriate AlburyCity Policies and Procedures regarding day to day operations including Equal Employment Opportunity policies, AlburyCity's Dress Code and Standards Policy and AlburyCity's Code of Conduct.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:

  • Based on a 35 hour week, with actual days and times being Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.00pm, with an RDO in accordance with AlburyCity's RDO guidelines.
  • This position will involve work outside normal working hours (including some evening and weekend work). Additional hours over the standard 35 hours will attract a time in lieu arrangement or payment of overtime rates as agreed with your supervisor.
  • This position does not require you to wear a compulsory uniform, however you must follow the dress code requirements within the AlburyCity’s Our People Dress Code Standards. Our People are required to present a smart and professional image to the public at all times including when in public and when working remotely.
  • This position requires evidence of a current NSW Working with Children's Check.
  • This position is subject to alcohol and other drug testing.
  • This position involves working in a predominantly outdoor environment where a varying range of temperatures, weather conditions and walking surfaces may be experienced. The position requires a moderate level of aerobic and physical fitness to undertake regular physical activities such as walking, lifting, pulling, pushing along with the capacity to maintain normal manual handling tasks across the work day - depending on the nature of the tasks undertaken. The use of relevant work method statements and appropriate WHS standards are an integral part of the role. A full functional and medical assessment is required for this position.
  • This position is located at the Retro Lane Cafe with frequent visits to, external sites/depots and AlburyCity Administration Building as required.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Qualifications in Youth Work, Community Services or related discipline or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Current First Aid Certificate (compulsory to have and maintain)
  • Class C (standard) Driver's Licence (compulsory to have and maintain)

EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstrated experience liaising and networking with local agencies
  • Demonstrated experience working with young people

SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Demonstrated competence and understanding in:
  • Community development principles and their application when running programs
  • The planning, implementation and evaluation of programs, activities and services for Youth
  • Program Management
  • Administration activities
  • Demonstrated computer skills and knowledge, with understanding of Microsoft Office software, with particular reference to Outlook, Word and Excel.
