About the Role:
As a High Voltage Protection Engineer, you will report directly to the Lead HV Protection Engineer and play a key role in testing, maintaining, and commissioning secondary systems and high voltage (HV) equipment.
This is a FIFO role with site-based work, and when not on site, you will be working from our Fortitude Valley office in Brisbane.
Your Responsibilities:
- Conducting testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting for HV protection systems, including relays, transformers, and switchgear.
- Design and implement relay settings, logic, and schemes for systems (e.g., ABB, GE Multilin, Schneider, Siemens).
- Perform advanced testing, including secondary injection, CT/VT testing, and fault-finding.
- Manage projects end-to-end, ensuring technical excellence and timely delivery.
- Engage with clients, delivering solutions and clear, concise technical reports.
- Maintain strict adherence to HV safety standards and Australian regulations (AS/NZS, IEC, IEEE).
What You’ll Bring:
- 5+ years in HV protection testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in tools like Omicron CMC356, PCM600, and relay software.
- Proven ability to lead teams and deliver under pressure.
- Familiarity with IEC61850 protocols and GOOSE messaging is an advantage.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
Required Qualifications & Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent or
- Trade Certification / AQF Cert Level 3 Electro Tech (highly regarded)
- QLD Electrical (or Fitter and Mechanic) Workers License (highly regarded)
- Engineers' Australia recognition (required before commencement, for overseas applicants)
- Current CPR/LVR certification (within the last 9 months)
- Unrestricted C Class Driver’s License
- White / Blue Construction Card
