Position Overview

The Support Worker is responsible to the relevant Site Leader and will work as part of a team to ensure that services are delivered in accordance with Richmond Futures vision and principles. Support is provided to participants aligned with the principles of the NDIS, with Support Workers promoting individual choice and control to build capacity where possible with independence to enhance participant wellbeing. In collaboration with the Support Worker team and external service providers, this role supports participants with their needs as identified in their plan.

The position:

  • Provide appropriate person-centered support to participants living with mental health conditions
  • Provide respectful but practical assistance to participants aimed at meeting the participant’s individual needs as aligned with their care plan and roster of care
  • Facilitate community inclusion and participation, dependent on individual needs, supporting participants to establish and maintain relationships
  • Undertake and promote positive routines, duties and support with daily living activities in a cooperative, respectful and flexible manner
  • Encourage positive behaviour and effectively manage challenging behaviour
  • Respond to crisis, emergencies and incidents within specified guidelines, demonstrating initiative and seeking assistance to situations where needed
  • Carry out designated duties and other reasonable duties as instructed and in line with the level and intent of the Support Worker role
  • Attend and engage positively in internal and external meetings and training
  • Work in a way that is consistent with the organisation’s values displaying professional and participant centred, safe work practices
  • Complete all administrative tasks such as case notes, medication administration and incident reports in an accurate and timely manner

Position Criteria

Essential:

  • Sound understanding of the needs of participants living with disability requiring supported accommodation
  • Ability to establish professional relationships with participants, their families, services providers and colleagues
  • Demonstrated understanding of wellbeing principles in mental health and a commitment to participant’s choice and control
  • Ability to assess a situation, use initiative and determine the appropriate response
  • Sound computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office and the ability to use or quickly acquire knowledge of Case Management System
  • Ability to understand and work within the established, policies, procedures, guidelines and frameworks of the organisation

Desirable:

  • Certificate IV in Mental Health, similar or working towards. A tertiary qualification will be highly regarded
  • Previous experience working in mental health, drug and alcohol, disability or other related human services
