About the Role:

Due to exciting new business growth, Comstar Systems have a position available for an experienced and enthusiastic Technical Officer to work with our Launceston team. This role will oversee projects as delegated by the Project Manager to Supervise site-level project activity on time and to budget and ensure that all projects are carried out according to QEHS regulations, organisational and client process requirements. This is a technical role and will require installation and commissioning of various telecommunication infrastructure (mobiles) using general and specialised tools.

Please note: You must be willing to climb telecommunication structures (monopoles, towers, masts) and travel away for up to 3 weeks at a time as an inherit requirement of this field-based position.

To be successful for this role, you must have:

  • Tertiary or Diploma qualifications in Telecommunications or similar discipline
  • Extensive knowledge of mobile technologies (3G, 4G, 5G) and other applications of general communications
  • Demonstrated experience in planning, installation and commissioning of mobile base stations
  • Theoretical knowledge of Microwave link concepts and standards, experience in installation and commissioning of microwave infrastructure on the ground (IDU) coax feeder termination and testing, preferably experience in MW panning
  • Experience with equipment provided by one of major vendors
  • Sound understanding of fibre telecommunication concepts, experience with exchange fibre patching, router integrations and preferably fibre splicing (not essential)
  • Strong supervisory and communication skills, self-motivation and the ability to work effectively within a team environment
  • Sound knowledge and experience in upholding industry and QEHS standards
  • Strong computer skills

Currently hold appropriate licenses and certifications including:

  • Manual Driver’s License
  • First Aid
  • CPR
  • Working at Heights and Tower Rescue (or willing to obtain them)
