Log Truck Driver (Tasmania, North West)

Kerrison Nominees
Launceston Full-day Full-time

Description:

About us:

Orana Enterprises Pty Ltd is a Tasmanian family-owned forestry harvest and haulage contractor operating all over the state of Tasmania. We employ over 120 local people from a diverse range of backgrounds in roles working as forestry machine operators, log and chip truck drivers, workshop/field technicians and support staff, and in administration, compliance, and safety roles.

Our business contracts for three major Tasmanian forest managers and harvests over 600,000t/pa of log product in plantation hardwood, pine and regrowth native forest estates with twelve active harvest crews operating around the state. We transport over 1,000,000t/pa of logs and run a truck fleet of over 50 company owned prime movers.

The position:

The continued expansion of our forestry log cartage business combined with a reduction in suitable sub-contractor capacity means we need TWO Log Truck Drivers for our Wynyard based fleet operation. You’ll need to be based out of the North West of Tasmania to work this role. Applicants may be allowed to take the truck home each night if they have suitable off-street parking available otherwise the truck will be based at our Wynyard depot meaning you’ll be required to travel to the yard each day to get started.

You’ll be driving a Kenworth T659 log truck with a tri-axle semitrailer so must hold a valid and unrestricted HC drivers licence with 18spd Road Ranger experience to be eligible for this position. MC licence holders are more than welcome to apply and may be offered a B-double opportunity in the future if they wish to do so. Applicants who only hold LR/MR/HR licences are not eligible for this opening. You will also be required to provide us with five years of driving history information regarding previous fines/offences and any crashes for insurance purposes so if you’re able to supply a licence history report that would save us a lot of work.

We need you to work across multiple forest company sites and mills and a variety of harvesting crews, so you’ll need to be a decent person who is easy to get along with and works in well with the other drivers, bush crews, workshop and management staff. We’ll provide training with regard to the electronic systems in the truck and docketing programs we use so don’t stress about the tech side of things.

Given the difficult environmental conditions the logging industry throws up you’re going to need to be pretty fit, able bodied and capable of moving around on rough ground, able to throw your own restraints and willing to do the job the way we ask you to do it.

We are Mass Management and Maintenance Management accredited so you’ll need to work within these management systems and will be responsible for some self-reporting of compliance issues such as overloads to the management group.

Work hours and start times are negotiable and we don’t expect you to be getting out of bed at silly o-clock to do this job if you don’t want to do that. Our major customers have opening hours that can suit most of your needs. Weekend and public holiday work is available at times but is not a requirement if you don’t want to do it.

Selection criteria:

• Be willing and able to pass a pre-employment medical test and drug screening.

• Have a current FOLS card or equivalent nationally recognised statement(s) of attainment related to the advertised position.

• Experience self-loading native regrowth longwood and cut to length hardwood timber.

• Have a current and unrestricted HC or MC drivers licence.

• Be based around the North West of Tasmania

• TLIF0005 certificate attained within the last 2-years will be beneficial as we move toward attaining BFM accreditation in 2024.

How to apply:

This position will be advertised for 30-days on Seek and linked to our company Facebook page. We may remove the advertisement at any time if a suitable candidate is found sooner. We will contact applicants via email to advise them if the position is closed early or if they are not progressing through to the next stage of the selection process.
