About the role:
The Finance and Investment Services team leads the development of budget strategy; provides financial, grant, procurement and contract management advice, services, and support, whilst ensuring the management of public funds is aligned with Government legislation and the Department’s Enterprise Plan.
The team have an opportunity for an experienced accounting professional to join the team as a ASO7 Principal Financial Analyst.
As the ASO7 Principal Financial Analyst , you will lead and deliver business and financial systems analysis, including identifying business needs and improvement opportunities, developing and implementing financial models, tools and techniques and working collaboratively with internal and external service providers and vendors.
In addition, you will partner will staff across the department to coordinate and provide a range of expert financial support and advice, as well as compliance monitoring and financial and budget reporting. You will also:
- Lead the planning, management and review of complex financial projects, and provide expert advice and guidance to DIIS project teams
- Deliver expert advice and contribution to the strategic planning, delivery and evaluation of complex financial analysis and advisory programs, projects and services
- Provide expert coordination to a range of complex internal and external financial reporting and advisory functions, including for the provision of estimates briefs and responses to questions on notice
- Provide expert advice and consultancy to program, policy and strategy development, project proposals and risk mitigation processes
Key Competencies:
To succeed in the ASO7 Principal Financial Analyst role, you will be able to demonstrate:
- Demonstrated experience in gathering financial data utilising contemporary budget management and financial systems and software tools to construct and maintain a range of financial reports.
- Significant experience in planning, delivering and evaluating complex financial analysis and advisory programs and services including partnering with, and providing expert advice and assistance to, business and project teams in relation to budget planning and management, financial management and reporting, and risk mitigation processes within a government context.
- Demonstrated experience in facilitating and coordinating various DTF processes including Monthly Monitoring, Budget Bilateral, Agency Statements and Estimates, Horizon Year and Year End Review.
- Detailed knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards, Treasurer’s Instructions, Forward Estimates processes, contemporary accounting methods and procedures, financial management principles, financial analysis and management reporting techniques and their application in a government organisation.
Remuneration:
Competitive salary will be offered as $108,109 to $116,864 pa plus superannuation

- Essential: Relevant degree qualifications in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or equivalent.
