The Opportunity
This is a strategic and influential role, providing expert legal advice and governance leadership across the organisation, including to the CEO, Board, and senior executives.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring Housing Choices Australia meets its legal, regulatory, and governance obligations while supporting strategic growth, corporate transactions, and best-practice corporate governance.
What you’ll do
- Provide high-level legal advice on governance, risk, compliance, and corporate transactions.
- Oversee corporate legal affairs, including mergers, acquisitions, finance, and litigation.
- Lead engagement with regulators and ensure compliance with statutory obligations.
- Foster a strong governance culture and implement best-practice corporate policies.
- Act as Company Secretary, ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements for the Group Board, Committees, state-based entities, and Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs).
- Lead the establishment of SPVs, ensuring seamless integration into the Group’s governance framework.
Skills And Experiences
What you'll bring:
You are a strategic legal professional with strong corporate governance expertise and a passion for working in a mission-driven organisation. You thrive in complex environments, advising senior leaders and Boards while ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in law
- Capacity to support change and innovation and deliver creative and leading practice solutions
- Sound knowledge and skills in negotiation and transactional work
- Proven experience and successful track record at senior leadership level in a comparable senior role
- Experience, or ability to acquire skills quickly, in managing a wide range of transactions in a complex legal and regulatory environment.
- Extensive experience in supporting Board or similar level decision-making including required reports.
- Well-developed organisational and/or project management skills including ability to manage conflicting priorities and high work volumes without affecting quality of service delivery

- Agree and undergo any other employment screening as required by Housing Choices - including but not restricted to Working with Children or Vulnerable Persons and NDIS Worker (this will be as applicable based on the state location and/or function of the role)
- Agree and comply with Child Safety policies and procedures
- Provide a current driver’s license and willingness to travel across Housing Choices’ locations, if and as required.
