About Australian Athletics

Australian Athletics ( AA ) is the governing body for Athletics in this country. It is a National Sporting Organisation whose major partner is the Australian Sports Commission. It is responsible for all athletics activity, including high performance, participation, coaching, officiating, juniors, para-athletics, domestic and international competition. Australian Athletics has a critical role in leading, fostering and encouraging participation in athletics in Australia and promoting excellence in performance.

So, what's the role?

As the Company Secretary & Governance Specialist at Australian Athletics, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the Board of Australian Athletics , CEO, as well as the Senior Leadership Team. The role plays a key part in supporting the effectiveness of the Australian Athletics Board by monitoring the Governance Framework and compliance with associated Board policies and procedures; coordinating the timely preparation and dispatch of Board Agendas and Board Papers.

Your core duties will include:

  • Ensure the Board has the required information to make effective strategic decisions via meeting papers, Board portal ‘Boardpro’, minutes, actions and agendas.
  • Attending and coordinating all Board meetings, Nominations Committee meetings and Annual General Meeting.
  • ASIC Lodgement for AA and its subsidiaries as required by Corporations Act (including annual company statement/review).
  • Maintenance of Risk Register and associated policies including rollout of risk training to staff.

What we are looking for:

You will have a deep understanding of the value of sport along with an extensive knowledge on current best practice corporate governance requirements, Directors’ duties under the law, and Board reporting and disclosure obligations. Experience in working with Boards in a senior management position. Experience in risk management is highly desirable.

The ability to work independently and collaboratively, and ability to remain calm under pressure and to triage conflicting priorities.

Ideally you will have:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in law, corporate governance, or risk.
  • Previous experience in the role of Company Secretary, assistant company secretary or Governance Officer.
  • Extensive experience in a senior management role working with Boards.
  • Sound understanding of the Corporations Acts and the obligations of companies under the Act.
  • A strong commitment to clean sport and abiding by AA’s National Integrity Framework suite of policies including the Australian National Anti-doping Policy, Safeguarding Children and Young Persons Policy, and Code of Conduct.
  • Hold and maintain a valid Working with Children Check and (or ability to hold) Police Check.
