About the role

As the Heavy Rail Plant Operator, you are integral to the success of V/Line’s Network Development, Asset and Maintenance Group.

You will be travelling throughout Victoria’s regions based out of Lara. In this role, you will operate machinery used to lay, align, repair, and maintain railway tracks.

This role requires a lot of travelling across our rail network and you must have the availability and flexibility as part of the role.


Key accountabilities include:


  • Operating and driving medium to heavy trucks and plant equipment.

  • Performing tasks related to the renewal and maintenance of rail infrastructure.

  • Participating in the replacement or renewal of track work and crossing materials (e.g., sleepers, rail, ballast, fastenings).

  • Ensuring the safe operation of all plant and trucks


About you

Our ideal candidate will possess the following:


  • Strong focus on safety and teamwork.

  • Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure (or willingness to obtain within 6 months).

  • Safe Working Certificate 1-3.

  • Heavy articulated/Multi Combination Truck Driver’s License is mandatory.

  • Heavy Rigid Licence desirable.

  • Competence with Loader/Backhoe/Excavator (12 tonnes and above) from rail, construction civil or a recycling environment is essential.
