About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Technical Simulations Officer (Think of classroom support of a technical nature, working with technology, tools, equipment and chemicals) to join our team at Bendigo Kangan Institute. Working within the horticulture space in this hands-on role, you will provide vital technical support to our teaching programs, ensuring the smooth operation of equipment and resources in our learning environments.
This position works across the following qualifications:
Certificate III in Agriculture
Certificate III in Conservation and Ecosystem Management
Certificate III in Landscape Construction
Certificate III in Parks and Gardens
Certificate III in Horticulture
Certificate IV in Conservation and Ecosystem Management
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support and advice to meet teaching program needs
- Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot equipment daily
- Manage inventory of equipment and supplies, including ordering materials
- Ensure proper storage and labelling of chemicals and equipment per legislation
- Update and manage Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
- Prepare and set up equipment for classes
- Conduct annual stocktakes
- Test, modify, and devise working solutions for equipment
- Contribute to maintenance processes and procedures
- Deliver staff training on specialized technical equipment
- Conduct safety inductions for new staff
Skills and Experience Required
- Specialist knowledge in classroom practical preparation and equipment maintenance
- Strong understanding of workplace health and safety regulations
- Technical problem-solving abilities
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
- Ability to understand and follow complex technical instructions
- Strong record-keeping skills
- Relevant licenses and qualifications pertinent to the role
