About the role:
We have an exciting opportunity to work at Box Hill Institute as our Assistant Childcare Cook . This is a part-time (20 hours per week), ongoing opportunity based at our Lilydale Lakeside Children's Centre , within our Lilydale Campus (Jarlo Drive). This position reports directly to the Director - Integrated Childcare Services, and sits within the Lakeside Childcare area of the Strategic Engagement division.
What you'll do:
- Work alongside the Childcare Cook in undertaking the daily catering activities for LLCC ensuring that the children from 0-6 years of age are provided with balanced and nutritious meals.
- Support the Childcare Cook to design, plan, prepare and serve balanced and nutritious meals to children at the centre; including infants and children with special diet requirements due to allergy or home culture.
- Work in collaboration with families and educators to support the needs of individual children .
- Work according to guidelines of the centre's Food Safety program , ensuring that all records are keep up to date and all the staff at the centre adhere to the guidelines.
- Support the Childcare Cook with the ordering and delivery of kitchen goods.
- Ensure the cleanliness of the kitchen is maintained at all times.
- Ensure all kitchen equipment and appliances are all in good working condition.
About you:
- Experience in the provision of well balanced and nutritious foods for children from 0-6 years of age in a childcare service environment
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to be flexible within the ELC environment and able to adapt to changing circumstances in and out of the classroom
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Victorian WWCC
Qualifications and experience:
- Certificate in Commercial Cookery
- 1-3 years of experience as a childcare cook (desirable)
- Food Safety Supervisor Certificate (desirable)
- Cert III in Children's Services (desirable)
- First Aid Certificate (Level 2) ((desirable)
- Asthma and Anaphylaxis Certificate (desirable)

The Box Hill Institute Lakeside Lilydale campus serves the local community as an active learning centre with a range of vocational and higher education courses.
The campus is also home to our wonderful Lilydale Lakeside Children's Centre (LLCC) which offers long day care, three and four-year-old kindergarten programs, a Maternal and Child Health centre.
The centre provides a safe, caring environment for children and has a strong focus on nature play. We believe it is important for children and their development to spend time outdoors as part of their learning and education to aid in the development of creativity and critical thinking skills.
