Help drive the development and management of strategic finance frameworks, policies and internal control practices to align with NSW Government requirements.
The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Finance Control and Analysis for the Finance, Performance, Procurement, Property, and Fleet division within the Enabling Services Group. This pivotal position encompasses a broad range of responsibilities, including collaborating with NSW Treasury to support the state budget and related processes, coordinating with Business Advisory and NSW Treasury, leading the Portfolio’s approach to Climate Change Disclosures, and managing relationships with the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Corporate Services staff given their ERP and transactional business processes are essential to DPIRD.
As Director, this role is instrumental in developing and implementing robust financial control policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with NSW Government requirements. The role leads the Portfolio’s approach to Climate Change Disclosures, liaising with NSW Treasury and the Department of Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Water (DCCEEW). This position requires a strategic thinker with a strong understanding of financial regulatory frameworks, capable of providing expert advice to senior leadership and fostering a culture of financial excellence. The Director actively partners and champions commercial acumen in clients, managers and staff as a subject matter expert, developing and promoting business reporting tools and contributing to budget development.
The position demands a leader who can effectively manage diverse stakeholder expectations, resolve complex transactional finance issues, and maintain strong relationships with key external partners, including NSW Treasury, the Audit Office of NSW, and Infrastructure NSW. The Director leads a large team of professionals, providing mentorship and guidance to ensure the delivery of accurate and timely financial reporting and analysis. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in interpreting and applying complex financial regulatory frameworks, and a proven track record of delivering related business outcomes.
To be successful you’ll need to:

  • Demonstrate significant experience at a senior level in building and enhancing stakeholder relations and strategic partnerships across government and non-government sectors
  • Effectively balance compliance requirements with efficient, fit for purpose solutions to business problems
  • Operate in a dynamic environment, ensuring strategic decision-making aligns with broader government objectives. This role supports wide range of stakeholders where there are conflicting priorities and expectations and resolving contentious issues within tight timeframes.
You’ll be someone who can :
  • Operate with a high level of autonomy and be fully and directly accountable for the advice you provide to all levels of government and stakeholders
  • Effectively make key decisions relating to strategies and develop/propose solutions to the executive regarding financial management activities
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of government decision making systems and processes.

You’ll also need :

  • Relevant degree qualification in Finance, Business or related discipline
  • 7-10 years membership of CA / CPA Australia
  • Expertise in ensuring accountability for the quality, integrity and accuracy of advice provided and taking responsibility for the approval or endorsement of Financial Statements
  • Successful track record in managing a geographically dispersed team.
