Description:
The Company
At Sterling Products, we take pride in doing what others deem impossible-delivering custom manufacturing solutions with flair. Based in Brisbane, we've built lasting partnerships with iconic Australian and international businesses by turning big ideas into real-world products.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Director, you'll own the design process for custom-manufactured products-everything from CAD models to clear, production-ready drawings and presentations. You'll be the go-to person for driving the mechanical design team and collaborating closely with the production department. Think you can handle it? Don’t wait-this opportunity might just slip away if you do.
What You’ll Do
- Design & Development : Research and generate creative product ideas and innovative methods to enhance design efficiency.
Create comprehensive documentation, including designs, calculations, results and engineering data
Select appropriate materials, equipment, and system layouts for new products and systems.
Ensure all designs meet safety standards, functional requirements, and comply with engineering regulations
Generate detailed engineering drawings for parts and products. Translate concepts into precise manufacturing data, ensuring zero guesswork on the shop floor.
Establish and implement standards for installation, maintenance, and quality control to ensure optimal performance.
- SolidWorks 2023 : Lead the concept design and development stages of products and systems using SolidWorks and Solidcam softwares. Preferably experienced with mould and Tool design.
- 3D Printing : Work with various materials to prototype and perfect designs (because one material simply isn’t enough).
- Sheet Metal Fabrication & FEA : Got experience with flattening, bending, and analyzing metal structures? Even better.
- Costing & PDM: Seamlessly integrate cost considerations and product data management into your designs.
- Quick 3D illustrations : Snap your fingers-well, almost-and produce visuals that tell a story and sell an idea.
2D Design Applications
- CorelDRAW : Vector Drawing for CNC router for 2D tool pathing.
- Collateral Creation: From shop drawings to brochures and web listings, your creative edge will help us stand out in a crowded market.
Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in managing design projects (the experience counts more than the piece of paper, but both are great).
- Minimum of 1 year of Full time similar work experience.
- Proficiency in MS Office (because sometimes Excel is your best friend).
- Strong communication skills-verbal, written, and presentation (translation: you can talk, type, and
show off your work without breaking a sweat).
- Ability to work solo or in a team-flexibility is key when juggling multiple projects.
- Organizational superpowers to handle shifting priorities without losing your cool.
