headspace is Australia's National Youth Mental Health Foundation providing early intervention mental health services to 12-25 year olds. The Opportunity

Youturn is thrilled to announce the establishment of our new headspace centre in Gawler ! This centre represents our commitment to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of young people in the community, and we're searching for an exceptional leader to bring this vision to life.

As a Community Engagement Worker you will actively promote headspace Toowoomba's services and foster the participation of young people in the Centre's Youth Engagement Sub-Committee. You will effectively support young people through coordinating events, engaging with family and friends, stakeholders and the wider community. The role is also responsible for supporting Family and Friends, stakeholder and community engagement / participation.

Some of the other key responsibilities will include:

  • Recruit, train, supervise and support young people to be involved in the headspace centre Youth Engagement Sub-Committee, and strengthen engagement through a range of activities, projects, and campaigns.
  • Support Young People and Family and Friends to represent and advocate for headspace in local networks.
  • Design, plan and coordinate activities / events that promote community participation in headspace programs and initiatives.
  • Develop community and health professional education events to build capacity and awareness of youth mental health and drug and alcohol issues.
  • Facilitate psycho-social based programs and clinical groups for young people, in conjunction with a headspace clinical team member.
  • Maintain presence and provide regular updates on social media for the Centre (e.g. Facebook, Instagram).

Essential Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience working in health promotion, community development, marketing/communications, or related field.
  • Experience engaging and working with young people with mental health issues.
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues faced by young people with mental health issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with a wide variety of stakeholders, including young people, their families/carers/kin, other agencies, and the wider community.
  • Experience in the delivery of groups to support young people and their families/carers/kin to support clinical.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage young people and work with them on promotional activities and campaigns.
  • Ability to work in a highly productive team as well as independently in an environment with time pressures and multi-tasking.
  • Knowledge of local youth/health/education sectors and understanding of trauma informed practice.

Other Requirements

  • Successful applicants will also need to hold a ‘C’ class Open driver licence, State Working with Children Check and hold, or be eligible to apply for, a Licensed Care Suitability Check issued by the QLD Department of Child Safety, Youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs.
