The Opportunity

Whether it’s at Early Learning Centres, Outside Hours School Care, at their Recreation centres, Aquatic facilities, in their Youth Programs, Remote Pools program, or at the Hostel, the Y is committed to supporting Territorians to be connected, educated, resilient and healthy.
The Role
The Y NT is recruiting Swim Teachers to join our team across multiple sites and facilities to be part of our every growing Learn to Swim program. The Y NT has a strong focus on helping to develop our young swimmers with a strong focus on technique, and stroke development.
Don’t have a Teacher of Swimming & Water Safety certificate? Doesn’t matter, we can support you in obtaining this qualification!
Swimming Instructors at the Y NT are an essential component in the delivery of the Y NT’s education programs and services. Swimming Teachers are required to maintain thorough knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the Y NT’s aquatic programs, educational trends and industry development and will act as positive role models in an effort to build strong people, strong families and strong communities within the facilities that we manage.
Key Responsibilities
- Commitment to Y NT’s philosophy in relation to aquatic programs; educational and teaching
- Construct and implement class plans for every class that promotes group teaching methods combined with water safety and enhance the developmental aspect of YMCA programs.
- Structures and designs classes with appropriate activities that enhance student interaction and collaboration
- Work within a team environment to ensure safe, timely and effective set up / class delivery & pack up
- Develops student’s values and attitudes
- Construct and submit for archiving, appropriate class plans
- Ensure appropriate attendance and competency records are completed, collated and submitted of archiving
- Comply with legislative and organisational requirements, policies, and procedures.
- Ensure full compliance with class supervision requirements
- Commit to ongoing in-service emergency procedure training
- Designs and monitors safe program environments
- Ability to build and maintain rapport with children and parents.
Selection Criteria
- AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety, or willingness to obtain
- Current First Aid / CPR
- Valid Working with Children Check (Mandatory)
- Satisfactory Criminal History Check
