The Opportunity
The Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) is recruiting for a Parliamentary Service Level 5 Security Advisor within Security Enabling Services Branch. Reporting to the Assistant Director Physical Security, this role has primary responsibility for assisting the management of security zones within the Australian Parliament House (APH), ensuring compliance with ASIO technical notes and PSPF requirements.
The Physical Security team are also responsible for the management of offsite guarding contracts, after hours alarm responses, secure waste disposal. Working collaboratively with DPS line areas, including other Security Branch Sections and key APH stakeholders in providing specialist advice contributing to the delivery of security enhancements, projects, and initiatives.
Security Enabling Services Branch is a dynamic and fast-paced work environment. We actively encourage cross-functional collaboration across a range of projects to deliver a complete and well-rounded security framework that includes policy and procedure development, electronic systems management and process implementation, risk management, access management, personnel and physical security and compliance monitoring.

Job Specific Requirements
- The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 1 (Confidential/Highly Protected/Secret) security clearance.
- Relevant qualifications and experience within physical security are desirable.

Section: Security Capability
Immediate supervisor: Assistant Director Physical Security
Under limited/general direction undertake duties in accordance with the agreed standards for the Parliamentary Service Level 5 classification. The duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Conducting compliance assessments of DPS facilities against the requirements of the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) and ASIO Technical Note 1/15 Physical Security of Zones.
- Contributing to issues management in relation to physical construction projects and/or remediation activities.
- Providing impartial and risk-based advice to staff on physical security matters.
- Facilitating the destruction of secure waste.
- Facilitating security container asset management.
- Fostering effective professional relationships with stakeholders.
- Maintaining an understanding of relevant legislation and policy frameworks.
- Contributing to the coordination and support of the following activities:
a) Accurate and reliable record management
b) Monitoring of the security group mailbox
c) Monitoring and liaison of intelligence reporting
d) Identifying and implementing improved work practices
e) Supporting oversight committees and DPS executive, and
f) Developing documentation and correspondence that is clear, concise and articulate.

Salary
Currently, the salary range for this position is $89,410 - $95,924 per annum.
Conditions of Employment
Employment opportunities at Department of Parliamentary Services are subject to a range of conditions prescribed in the Parliamentary Service Act 1999 which include:
- Australian citizenship – to be eligible for employment with DPS, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
- Security clearance and character clearance – the preferred applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the level specified, as well as complete and be deemed suitable through a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check.
- Health assessment – a pre-employment health assessment will be required where there are physical or medical requirements for the role.
Pay: $89,410.00 – $95,924.00 per year
