  • Based at the Melbourne CBD campus, but may be required to work and/or be based at other campuses of the University

About You

The Research Assistant/Research Fellow will work on a Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) Project – Solving Plastic Waste, focused on regulatory understanding, behaviour and education associated with biodegradable/compostable packaging products with research teams and partnerships in the School and Research Institutes. The Fellow will undertake research across different Schools and researchers across RMIT, to eventually support the replacement of traditional petroleum-based plastics and minimise plastic waste. The Fellow will engage in research activities that align with the University’s research strategy.

You are expected to carry out both independent and/or team-based research that makes a significant impact in education/user attitudes and behaviour change associated with biodegradable and compostable polymer, gaining national and international recognition for expanding knowledge in this discipline.

As a Research Assistant/Research Fellow, you are expected to plan, develop and engage in high-quality research projects that are aligned with the University’s research focus areas and aligned with the goals of this project associated with the CRC. You will integrate your research expertise into the school’s activities through the development of high-quality, productivity-driven research networks across RMIT and with local and national, internal and external partners. Moreover, you are expected to engage in high-quality research projects, contribute to securing research funding successfully and to produce high quality outputs.

The candidate may be required to go to industry partner’s sites.

To be successful in this position, you’ll have:

  • A PhD in disciplines that are associated with policy / regulation, education and behaviour change, relevant work experience in related areas.

  • Emerging track record and recognition for quality research outputs, which will contribute to existing Discipline and School research areas evidenced by publications, development of new research initiatives, competitive research funding, and industry links.

  • Demonstrated ability to supervise higher degree by research candidates.

  • Ability to build effective networks with colleagues and generate alternative funding projects through effective liaison with industry and government.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills appropriate for interacting with higher degree by research candidates, staff and industry, together with a strong commitment to teamwork and multidisciplinary collaboration.
