About This Opportunity

The Postdoctoral Research Fellow/Research Officer position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in Systems Neuroscience and Bioinformatics. The role focuses on exploring brain development and function from developmental and comparative perspectives, integrating molecular biology, advanced imaging, and genomics/transcriptomics. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop their research profile and engage in service and collaboration within the academic community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research: Produce high-quality research outputs, contribute to competitive research funding applications, and collaborate on joint research projects. Develop a coherent research program, review best practice methodologies, and work towards the translation and commercialization of UQ intellectual property.

  • Supervision and Researcher Development: Contribute to the supervision of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students, providing feedback, coaching, and professional development. Manage research support staff and resolve conflicts in accordance with university policies.

  • Citizenship and Service: Demonstrate alignment with UQ values, actively participate in team activities, and support academic positions during staff absences. Contribute to internal service roles and engage in decision-making and committee work.

  • External Collaboration: Cultivate external partnerships and collaborations with industry, government departments, professional bodies, and the wider community to enhance the impact of research and foster interdisciplinary relationships.

About You

  • Completion or near completion of a PhD in Systems Neuroscience, Comparative Neuroanatomy, Computational Neuroscience, or Bioinformatics.

  • An emerging profile in research in the discipline area, evidenced by publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences.

  • High analytic and computer skills, including handling big data.

  • Some experience in meaningful internal service roles and/or contributions towards external activities.

The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia and education check.
