Male Casual Disability Support Worker - ASD, Complex needs (Non-verbal) Experience

  • Weekday and weekend care

We are seeking Complex Response Male Team Members to join our team. You’ll be supporting clients with complex ASD Lvl3, intellectual disabilities, and significant behaviours of concern, working in a structured, contained environment. This is a highly rewarding position that requires someone empathetic, professional, and able to handle challenging situations with resilience and composure

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to clients with complex needs, including ASD Level 3, severe language impairment (non-verbal), severe / profound intellectual disability and high complex behaviours.
  • Proficient in de-escalation and conflict resolution strategies to defuse potentially hostile situations and prevent escalation
  • Conduct risk assessments and evaluate current and potential situations
  • Think critically and make intelligent decisions in high stress situations
  • Work in a team to deliver tailored care and support in a safe, contained environment.
  • Work collaboratively with other team members to ensure best practices and the safety of all individuals in care.
  • Rotating roster that includes morning, afternoon, and active night shifts

- Mornin g Shift: 6:00 am – 2:00 pm

- Afternoon Shift: 2:00 pm – 10:00 pm

- Active Night Shift: 10:00 pm – 6:00 am

Ideal Candidate:

  • Previous experience working with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is highly desirable.
  • At least 1 years of experience working with people with complex mental illness, providing behavioural and trauma-informed support.
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience in managing challenging behaviors.
  • Strong communication skills, particularly in non-verbal communication.
  • Clear English-speaking communication skills
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure and adapt to changing situations
  • An understanding of the challenges faced by people with complex mental health issues and those from marginalized communities.
  • Experience supporting people deemed to have significant complexity in their lives.
  • Must be reliable, punctual, and committed to providing consistently as these supports are essential.

Requirements:

  • Certificate III or higher in related field is highly desirable
  • A clear understanding of professional boundaries and restrictive practices.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain the following:
  • NDIS Worker Check (Yellow Card
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module
  • Working with Children Check (Blue Card)
  • Valid CPR and First Aid Certificate
  • Valid Police Check
  • Current Driver’s License, a reliable motor vehicle (including valid registration and fully comprehensive insurance)

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience in Individual Support, Mental Health, previously or other related disciplines, advantageous but not required.
  • Willingness to undergo our internal training program to develop specific skills required for this role.
