Responsibilities and Duties

Key Responsibilities

  • Caretaking and grounds work
  • Daily check of building paths, gardens and grounds for damage and rubbish
  • Cleaning duties including polishing brass, cleaning windows, clearing cobwebs,
  • Sweeping porches, cleaning and sanitising all bins twice per annum
  • Recycling and rubbish duties
  • Room set up and clearing
  • Storeroom maintenance including tables, equipment etc
  • Garden watering as needed
  • Caring for outdoor furniture and plaques
  • Maintenance of the college trailers, BBQs and outdoor ovens
  • Weekly check of all common lighting
  • assisting the cleaning team and Staff or Residents with moving and shifting objects/materials
  • patrolling car parks for damage and for unauthorised vehicles
  • proactively reporting and minimising or fixing hazards and faults
  • removing obsolete posters and notices
  • assisting with room inspections and record keeping

Basic maintenance tasks include but not limited to

  • hinge, lock and key maintenance
  • gate mechanisms
  • light bulb replacements
  • basic plumbing tasks e.g. washers, clearing blocked drains and pipes
  • laundry maintenance e.g. clean filters
  • flyscreen repairs and replacement
  • water filter changing
  • cleaning air conditioner filters in Whitehead, Admin, Fed etc
  • becoming knowledgeable of buildings, locations of shut-off valves fuse boxes, thermostats, gas and water meters, fire alarm systems, boilers and hot water heaters
  • liaising with residents on maintenance issues
  • ensuring workshop is kept clean, tidy and safe of workplace hazards at all times.
  • Painting
  • Tiling and corking

Other Duties

  • meeting regularly with Buildings and Services Manager to report on work undertaken and current priorities
  • checking maintenance requests daily and discussing priorities with the Buildings and Services Manager
  • undertaking the tasks of the Buildings and Services Manager when the incumbent is on leave
  • Other duties as required

Remuneration$75,000 + superannuation paid on a fortnightly basis by direct deposit into bank account of your choice.Other conditions and benefits

  • A current Working with Children clearance and current Police Check for South Australia.
  • Current Driver’s License (essential)
  • Normal hours of work: 8:30am – 4:30pm (Monday – Friday) 75-hour fortnight, with flexibility. (Happy to negotiate start/finish times)
  • Limited out of hours work required with due notification.
  • Leave entitlements and general employment conditions consistent with National Employee Standards
  • Off street parking provided during work hours
  • Lunch provided during work hours (during the academic year).
