About the ProjectCritical inclusion: Building SA's prosperity through Gender Equality
The project supports the attraction, retention and progression of women in the gender segregated workplaces critical to South Australia's industrial future. The project will develop and deliver targeted gender equality initiatives, underpinned by consultation, quantitative and qualitative research, tailored for targeted SA workplaces.
The initiatives include the development of tailored tools and resources, supported by educational sessions and training – designed to be scalable. The project culminates in the design of a comprehensive implementation programme including the delivery of training.
Applicants who progress to interview will be provided with a full project brief, in order to prepare for interview.
The project runs for 12 months from the start of April 2025.
About the PositionThe Project will be undertaken by a Project Team of five (5) people to be employed by SA Unions. The Project Team will be comprised of a Project Coordinator, three (3) Project Officers and a Communications and Design Officer.
The Project Industrial Officer will work in collaboration with the project team to:
- Apply a gendered lens to reviewing workplace conditions in awards, agreements and policies,
- Draft model clauses and best practice policies,
- Develop workers’ rights toolkits and guides on workplace rights relevant to the project,
- Contribute to the development of workplace education programs relevant to the project.
- Practical experience in workplace advocacy,
- Experience in interpreting and applying industrial instruments,
- Understanding of the barriers facing women in gender segregated industries,
- Understanding of industry structures, work health and safety and workplace rights,
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and inspire,
- The applicant must have strong organisational, interpersonal and relationship management skills,
- Demonstrated ability to be able to work in a collaborative team environment,
- Demonstrated skills and proficiency with relevant office computer programs,
- Demonstrated commitment to worker’s rights and trade unionism.
It is desirable for candidates to satisfy one or more of the below:
- Demonstration of professional development relevant to the field of gender equity and WHS,
- Understanding of the impact of psychosocial hazards in the workplace,
- Relevant experience or training as an Industrial Officer or Lawyer,
- Participation in union, political and/or community campaigns.
This is a one year, grant funded project.
Fixed term employment is offered for an initial six months, with an additional six month engagement contingent on meeting project milestones and funding conditions.

- Employment conditions subject to the SA Unions Enterprise Agreement
- Classification: Specialist Grade 1 - $95,000
- 13% Superannuation
- Flexible working arrangements and attractive leave entitlements including 12 rostered days off per year
- Christmas shutdown leave and 4 weeks annual leave
- Whilst the position is based in the Adelaide CBD, staff have access to remote working options
- CBD carparking provided
