The Road Safety Policy and Reform Directorate is seeking an experienced and dedicated Principal Project Officer who will thrive in a positive, collaborative and flexible work environment.
The core purpose of the Road Safety Policy and Reform Directorate is to develop and implement policy in the areas of road safety, vehicle registration, driver licensing, heavy vehicles, transport innovation and passenger transport to deliver benefits and outcomes for customers, the community and the economy and to provide advice across the Transport Policy and Regulation Division.
The heavy vehicle Principal Project Officer plays a crucial role in engaging, coordinating, and delivering high-level research and expert advice to influence key decisions for the state’s heavy vehicle transport system. The role involves the provision of innovative solutions to current and future challenges facing the heavy vehicle industry, development of productivity solutions through enhanced access arrangements, practical trials, and facilitating the use of new technologies. They will support infrastructure planning, maintenance, decision making and investment processes through provision of heavy vehicle access advice and data, while contributing to the review of the Heavy Vehicle National Law and other supporting legislation.
This position requires collaboration across multiple teams and disciplines within the Department for Infrastructure and Transport, including engineering, technical advisory services, asset management, transport analytics, project and program planning, design review, and project delivery.
Qualifications
For appointment at the PO4 classification level, a degree in engineering providing eligibility for membership as a Professional Engineer of the Institution of Engineers, Australia (Engineers Australia) is required.
For appointment at the ASO7 classification level, an appropriate tertiary qualification or equivalent is required. Professional experience is desirable in engineering, law, policy development, planning, education, or local government.
Special Conditions
Prior to employment with the Department the successful candidate will be required to provide:


  • A National Police Check (NPC) is required prior to employment in the Department for Infrastructure and Transport which must be renewed every three years.
  • A Working with Children Check (WWCC) is required prior to employment with the Department for Infrastructure and Transport, which must be renewed every five years before expiry.

Some out of hours and weekend work, along with some intra/interstate travel requiring overnight stays, may be required.
Remuneration
PO4 - $110,696 to $120,470 pa + superannuation.
ASO7 - $108,109 to $116,864 pa + superannuation.
