The Karlup Service is a holistic, wraparound service model for women and children to heal and recover from family and domestic violence which will run from the Angela Wright Bennett Centre (AWBC) building, a state-of-the-art, purpose-built facility in the Perth CBD.

The Karlup Service recognises that the relationship between family and domestic violence (FDV) and drug and alcohol use is complex. Support for women with problematic alcohol and other drug use is seen as a critical offering of the service to ensure that it does not undermine the chances of long-term recovery or inhibit a woman’s ability to build an independent life free from violence.

The role of the Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Support Worker is to facilitate and coordinate support for problematic drug and alcohol use, providing system navigation, emotional encouragement and motivation through a case-management approach to women who have decided to seek support for the alcohol and/ drug use.

We are seeking someone to fulfil this role on a permanen t part-time 0.6 FTE basis, working 3 days per week.

The successful applicant will be required to meet the following criteria:

• Relevant case management experience in the alcohol and other drugs sector.
• Capability to work effectively with a trauma and culturally informed model of service delivery.
• Strong interpersonal communication and relationship building skills.
• Ability to work independently and contribute effectively in a team environment.
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of diversity and social inclusion - including gender, sexuality, disability, cultural, age, and linguistic diversity and Aboriginal culture.

The following criteria are considered desirable, but not essential:

• Lived experience and/or previous experience in working effectively with women who have experienced family and domestic violence and a sound understanding of the dynamics of family and domestic violence and the social and cultural context in which it occurs.
• Qualification of a Certificate IV in a relevant discipline.
• Diploma or degree in social work, psychology, mental health, community services or a related discipline.
