Are you a GIS specialist looking for an exciting opportunity to apply your skills in a dynamic and growing community? The City of Karratha is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented GIS Officer to drive the development, support, and continuous improvement of our Geographical Information Systems (GIS).

As a key member of our Strategic Planning team, you will play an essential role in shaping the City’s GIS capabilities, ensuring the accuracy and availability of spatial data, and supporting various departments with high-quality mapping and analysis. This role offers a mix of hands-on GIS system administration, stakeholder collaboration, and innovative problem-solving.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Developing, maintaining, and operating GIS systems to meet business and legislative requirements.
  • Managing and improving spatial data layers, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Providing technical expertise and support for GIS applications across the City.
  • Delivering high-quality maps, spatial analysis, and reports to support decision-making.
  • Enhancing the City’s GIS services by improving accessibility and user experience.
  • Liaising with internal teams and external stakeholders to grow and improve GIS datasets.
  • Supporting GIS-related incident resolution and collaborating with IT support teams.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Expertise in GIS – Tertiary qualification in GIS or relevant experience, with strong knowledge of GIS systems, mapping, spatial analysis, and data management.
  • Technical Skills – Experience in GIS configuration, administration, and troubleshooting, preferably in a Local Government setting.
  • Problem-Solving Mindset – Ability to analyze issues, implement solutions, and drive continuous improvements.
  • Collaboration & Communication – Strong interpersonal skills to liaise with various departments and stakeholders, providing exceptional customer service and technical support.
  • Attention to Detail – Accuracy in data management, documentation, and report preparation.
  • Flexibility & Initiative – Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Current C-Class Driver’s Licence – Essential for site visits as required.
  • National Police Clearance – No more than 6 months old.
