The Role

The Shipbuilding Quality Manager will be responsible for leading the quality management function within Luerssen Australia. The incumbent will develop and implement quality strategies to ensure our product and processes meet the highest standards of quality and compliance. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, overseeing quality assurance processes, and driving continuous improvement initiatives across all areas of the business.


Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day operations of the Quality Department, ensuring effective quality control and assurance processes are in place throughout the production cycle.
  • Ensure all quality procedures, standards, and specifications are implemented, followed, and continuously updated to meet organizational and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive quality management system (QMS) that complies with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and Australian defense specifications.
  • Monitor the performance of the QMS and lead corrective actions as necessary to address non-compliance or quality issues.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and other departments to address quality issues and ensure timely resolution of any non-conformance or quality challenges.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the quality team, ensuring appropriate training, development, and support for team members to enhance their skills and capabilities.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for quality-related audits, inspections, and regulatory inquiries, ensuring the company meets compliance requirements for defense projects.
  • Establish and track key quality metrics, providing regular reports to senior management on performance, trends, and areas for improvement.


Requirements

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications
  • Demonstrated 7+ years' experience in a quality management role within the shipbuilding sector or naval projects, developing, implementing and managing Quality Management Systems (QMS) in compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 45001, and other relevant standards
  • Demonstrated senior leadership skills with a track record of driving quality improvements
  • Demonstrated success in leading audit processes (internal, external, Commonwealth level), including compliance assessments, corrective actions, and audit reporting.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively engage with internal and external stakeholders.
