About the Role:
As Design Manager (Civil), you will play a pivotal role in managing multi-disciplinary engineering design projects, collaborating with internal teams and subcontractors to deliver high-quality solutions for our clients. This is a key leadership role that reports directly to the Managing Director (Australia Pacific).
You will oversee:
- Design Management – Leading major and integrated projects requiring inter-team resourcing and subcontractor coordination.
- Engineering – Overseeing road, rail, traffic engineering, and subdivision design.
- Digital – Driving 3D model development in Civil3D, 12d, OpenRoads etc. and 3D utility models (including combined services routes).
- Water – Managing hydrological modelling, drainage, potable water, and wastewater design (HECRAS, DRAINS, Tuflow, EPANET etc.).
- Staging – Leading construction traffic staging and temporary traffic management design.
Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and guidance to the civil team for the successful delivery of infrastructure projects, including roads, rail, port, airport, and dam projects.
- Overseeing the Digital Team to ensure the effective use of design tools and the production of 3D utility models.
- Drive the response to client needs and ensure the consistent delivery of professional services.
- Identifying new project opportunities and leading tenders/consultancy bids.
- Ensure project quality requirements are met efficiently within agreed timeframes and budgets.
- Champion adherence to WHS policies and procedures across the engineering team.
- Oversee efforts to achieve the client’s objectives and critical success factors.
- Travel to both Australian and international project sites for varying durations, as required.
- Supervision and mentoring of junior employees.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree or higher in Civil or Structural engineering, Project Management, or relevant discipline.
- Proven experience in Civil management role within an engineering or related industry.
- Demonstrated experience in developing strategic and business plans.
- Eligibility to be or a member of Engineers Australia or New Zealand.
- CPEng or willing to obtain chartered status.
Required Skills:
- Strong background executing engineering design projects.
- Strong knowledge of road authority standards across Australia and/or New Zealand.
- Previous consultant experience desirable and exposure across different phases of projects.
- Previous experience in managing a team of engineers and project managers.
- A strong track record of business development and contributing to successful bids.
- Excellent team skills.
- Report writing skills.
- Organised and hard-working with attention to detail.
- Be able to travel and work with minimal supervision.
