About APCO
The Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) is Australia’s co-regulator for packaging and a not-for-profit organisation driving the development of a circular economy for packaging. APCO is the entity in charge of managing and administering the Australian Packaging Covenant (the Covenant), which is a national regulatory framework under the National Environment Protection (Used Packaging Materials) Measure 2011 (NEPM). This framework defines the collective responsibility shared by governments and businesses across Australia in managing the environmental impact of packaging.
The Role
The Finance Manager plays a crucial role in supporting the CFO / Company Secretary by overseeing financial operations and ensuring APCO’s financial activities align with strategic objectives. This position is responsible for managing financial reporting, forecasting, and maintaining internal controls, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and providing key financial insights to drive strategic decision-making. Additionally, the Finance Manager will lead and support the finance team in delivering accurate and timely financial records, while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to optimise financial performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive the delivery of accurate, timely, and compliant financial reports, ensuring APCO meets all statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Champion strong financial controls and policies to safeguard APCO’s financial health.
- Oversee and fine-tune cash flow, banking, and investment strategies to keep the organisation financially strong.
- Proactively identify and mitigate financial risks while ensuring compliance with Australian accounting standards.
- Lead budgeting and forecasting processes, offering strategic insights that shape key business decisions.
- Collaborate with teams across the organisation to build financial confidence and accountability.
- Spearhead finance-related projects that enhance APCO’s financial effectiveness and support long-term growth.
- Inspire and mentor the finance team, fostering a high-performance culture and professional development.
- Build strong relationships with key stakeholders to enhance financial operations and strategic decision-making.
- Partner with the Leadership Team to turn financial insights into meaningful action

- You will be a great candidate of you have:
- Relevant qualification such as a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field or CPA or CA qualification
- 5+ years of experience in financial management, accounting, or a similar role.
- A background in a member-based organisation or not-for-profit setting is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of compliance and regulatory requirements within the Australian financial landscape.
- Familiarity with financial systems and tools, such as Xero or similar.
- An understanding or keen interest in the packaging industry, sustainability, and the circular economy.
