The salary range for this role is $135,000 – $160,000 exclusive of superannuation. This role is also eligible for our short term incentive program.
Your Role at LUNA
We are looking for a Head of Accounting to lead our Scaleup and Enterprise team in delivering cutting-edge solutions for high-growth startups, and work closely with the wider Scaleups and Enterprise Leadership team on strategy, roadmap and delivery.
In this position, you are responsible for the daily operations of the Accounting-Scaleup and Enterprise (A-SE) team, the virtual CFO function across LUNA and building the client pipeline. You will own the quality of services, capacity, pipeline of work and drive performance towards revenue amongst the team.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Service Delivery: Own quality control of A-SE client delivery work to ensure all outgoing work is to the LUNA standard. Performance manage to maintain and improve quality control.
- Business Development: Partner with Coach and leadership team to build and execute on business development to increase: 1) new sales, particularly building the VCFO practice and 2) LTV of current clients, in order to meet 3 year client target numbers.
- Virtual CFO: Review and build on existing VCFO and grow offering across A-SE and Accounting-Startups team.
- Accounting Leader: First escalation point and subject matter expert for all technical accounting questions across A-SE.
- Training: Own A-SE training program so that team is trained on technical accounting education, product offering, customer journey, and client experience.
- Pricing: Own A-SE pricing structure with input from Coach.
- Product: With Head of Scaleups and Enterprise, own A-SE product offering, including products that deepen relationships between both accounting and legal arms.
- Client Relationships: In collaboration with the Head of Scaleups and Enterprise, co-manage all A-SE client relationships to ensure positive client relationships and quality control of client delivery work.
Accounting Service Delivery
- Brilliant Work: Deliver high-quality end-to-end accounting support tailored to the Scaleups and Enterprise clients. This includes:
- Deliver VCFO services
- EOM/EOQ reporting
- Work with our internal tax team to deliver tax compliance outcomes to our high-growth startup clients.
- Hit Targets: Hit individual quarterly revenue targets and output points as set out by the Head of Scaleups and Enterprise
Team Performance & Culture
- Team Points and Revenue Targets: Own A-SE team to successfully hit revenue targets.
- WIP: Run weekly A-SE team WIPs to drive performance towards weekly revenue targets and output points.
- Hiring: Recruit where applicable.
- Team Performance: Manage performance of A-SE team.
- Team Culture and Connection: Foster A-SE team culture and promote LUNA Core Values.
Operations
- Output: Ensure A-SE submits weekly output points for accurate monthly report-outs.
- Systems: Ensure A-SE team’s adoption and usage of internal systems and tools, in line with LUNA best practice.
LUNA Leadership
- Thought Leadership: Represent LUNA in the wider startup and innovation ecosystem and advocate for LUNA through thought leadership and industry engagement initiatives.
- Bi-Annual Leadership Meetings: Participate in Bi-annual LUNA Leadership offsites.
- Professional Development & Growth: Facilitate one Learning & Development session/yr, and participate in LUNA’s leadership program, Elevate.
- Leadership Engagement & Strategic Contribution: Participate in annual planning and leadership meetings.
Your First 6 Months: What to Expect
- Grow VCFO services to acquire 10 new VCFO clients.
- Optimise systems for efficient and structured client onboarding and to uphold quality control.
- Manage and nurture A-SE’s new and returning sales pipeline.
- Establish accounting training programs for the A-SE Team.
A Bit About You
- CPA/CA qualified with significant experience in accounting.
- Strong track record and love of business development and familiarity with owning and building a sales pipeline, driving team performance, and ensuring quarterly revenue targets and output points are met.
- Proven experience in leading and managing a team, including overseeing performance, mentoring, and providing continuous feedback to drive quality improvements.
- Expertise in accounting services, particularly in maintaining complex Xero ecosystems, core bookkeeping, preparing accurate financial reports (EOM and EOQ), financial health checks for scaling businesses, strategic financial advice, project cost and other strategic analysis and general business reviews.
- Strong experience in building and maintaining positive client relationships.
- In-depth knowledge of technical accounting practices and the ability to mentor others in complex accounting matters.
- Foster a positive team culture that aligns with organisational values, managing team relations, promotions, and terminations effectively.
