Sydney Water is looking for a Senior Planner - Climate Change Adaptation & Resilience to drive the implementation of our Climate Change Adaptation Plan. In this role, you’ll help maintain service levels in the face of a changing climate by integrating climate change into key planning activities and advancing our climate maturity.
You’ll work on high-impact projects that directly improve Sydney Water's climate preparedness, collaborating with teams across the organisation to ensure our infrastructure and systems are ready for climate-related challenges. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to Sydney Water’s resilience efforts and influence climate adaptation strategies.
Responsibilities:- Co-design and develop climate risk assessment programs, integrating them with existing planning initiatives and ensuring compliance with EPA requirements.
- Provide climate change adaptation expertise throughout project stages, prioritising projects based on key climate risks.
- Collaborate with the Strategy & Sustainability team to inform future climate risk programs and research, aligning with organisational goals.
- Work closely with WEIP to develop asset class strategies, factoring in climate-related impacts and risk considerations.
- Ensure key planning documents reflect adaptive capacity and climate thresholds relevant to anticipated impacts.
- Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Environmental Science, Planning, or a related discipline.
- Proven experience in developing and managing integrated approaches to climate risk and adaptation planning.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work across teams and departments.
- Experience in climate risk assessments and integrating climate change strategies into planning processes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of preparing reports and briefings for senior management.
- A strategic thinker, able to navigate complex challenges and provide innovative, sustainable solutions.
- Experience in climate change adaptation and resilience planning.
- Solid understanding of climate risk management and environmental regulations.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a matrix structure, engaging stakeholders across multiple functions.
- Passion for sustainability and contributing to environmental resilience.
- You must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
