POSITION PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE
The position is responsible for the management of internal corporate communications
including publications and content on digital platforms (e.g. Newsletters, Staff Intranet and
Staff App).
The position contributes to the effective and efficient implementation of the Corporate
Communications & Marketing Strategy and ensuring a professional and positive corporate
profile and reputation.

Business & Information Systems; Human Resources;

Key External Relationships: Digital platform providers, print houses.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Coordinate and develop Council’s internal publications, including Newsletters and

eNewsletters, as required.

2. Develop internal communication strategies in line with Council’s Workforce Management
Strategy.

3. Work with other internal services (e.g. Human Resources and Business & Information
Systems) to promote the milestones of priority projects.



4. Manage content on Council’s current internal online properties (Staff Intranet and App)

and participate in the priority project to implement a new Staff Intranet.

5. Provide advice, support and assistance to staff and managers across Council relating to
communications and marketing activities and associated procedures and standard,
ensuring they are in line with Council’s brand and writing guidelines.
Effectively support the Manager, Communications & Marketing by implementing the
Corporate Communications & Marketing Strategy that includes the service activities of
Corporate Communications; Marketing; Staff Engagement; and Policy Management and
Training


Workplace Health & Safety
Ensure compliance with WHS obligations and responsibilities as outlined in Councils policies
and procedures and under the relevant WHS legislation. These include but are not limited to
identifying potentially unsafe situations or work practices and notifying your Supervisor or
Manager (or the Health, Safety Manager/Area Safety Representative); never performing a
task that you believe is dangerous or for which you do not have the experience, or have not
received appropriate instructions and training or where the correct equipment to carry out the
task safely is not available; always work in a safe manner and in accordance with safety
instructions, where applicable; use the work equipment supplied for the job, in accordance
with the manufacturer's instructions), and any personal protective equipment, which the
Council deems necessary and has provided; be safety aware and report any actions to your
line manager which will assist the Council to meet its legal workplace health and safety
obligations.

all times to comply with Councils Asbestos Management Plan and Policy


COMMUNICATION

  • Write detailed correspondence, reports and submissions that require original
sentence and paragraph construction and wording
  • The jobholder is required to anticipate and pre-empt staff communication

requirements and do their utmost to meet these. In addition, the jobholder should
monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the service provided and recommend
modifications to improve service.


  • Required to provide service to internal customers as a regular part of the job.

Service includes answering queries, providing documentation, providing advice
and referring queries to appropriate personnel.


  • Requires extensive, on-going cooperation, coordination and communications

between Services for work production or service quality.

  • One on one communications required frequently – weekly or more often or of critical
importance to the job. Group communication extends to conducting meetings/lead
group discussions and occasionally making formal presentations or speeches.

Problems are solved using research, analysis, and evaluation of information which may
not be readily available. Judgement is important as there is often no right or wrong
solution.


The jobholder must make judgements or recommendations based on advanced

analytical or creative thought.

Ongoing planning is required to ensure strategic outcomes or the coordination of
resources covering multiple work cycles or long term projects.


Understand the current and desired market positioning and strategic business direction

of the organisation and apply business principles to the Department(s) to achieve these
aims. Have a comprehensive understanding of the organisation’s goals and strategies.



AUTHORITY

  • Policy and procedures are readily available but the jobholder is required to
choose the appropriate processes. Unusual problems may be referred for clarity
of policy or direction.
  • Decisions affect the work and activities across a major function or a number of

departments.

  • The work of the jobholder influences staff within a specified service line through
the application of technical skill or application of regulatory requirements.
  • The jobholder is responsible for ensuring that operational safety standards or

other requirements are met at an operational level.


Develops a complete budget for a section or a specific project. Responsible for costing
resources/time/people and materials.


SKILL, EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS & BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES
ESSENTIAL

1. Tertiary qualifications and/or demonstrated experience related to corporate
communications, marketing, digital promotions or related field.


2. Proven ability to develop and implement corporate communication strategies

and campaigns.

3. Excellent oral and written communication skills including copywriting, editing,
and writing for print and digital media.


4. Demonstrated experience in website platform management, digital content

management, web accessibility and the ability to use analytical web tools.

5. Exceptional interpersonal skills demonstrating the ability to build and maintain
effective internal business relationships, including the ability to consult and
liaise with a range of people in a professional manner.


6. Ability to exercise sound judgement in dealing with complex communication

issues.

7. Demonstrated high level organisational skills, including the ability to produce
high quality work, manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines and
operate with a significant degree of initiative and independence.


8. Advanced computer skills and demonstrated experience with desktop

publishing, databases, PC applications and social media.

9. Ability to work outside of core hours as required.

10. Understanding of and commitment to Occupational Health and Safety and
Equal Employment Opportunity principles.


DESIRABLE

1. Previous experience with Local Government or public sector.
2. Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office 365 (including building sites

within Microsoft SharePoint)
3. Class C Drivers’ Licence.
