Join the Department of Customer Services, Open Data and Small and Family Business (CDSB) as a Principal Legal Officer and be part of a team that is making a difference and creating a lasting legacy. Our department is playing a significant role in Queensland's future. As a Principal Legal Officer in the Legal Services team, you'll be responsible for providing advice on complex legal matters for the department. Your strategic acumen in contractual, commercial, and ICT law is critical to our operations, by providing high-level legal advice, managing significant litigation, and shaping departmental policies.

Here's what we're looking for:
• Ability to provide high level, strategic, independent and professional legal advice and documentation to executive officers across the department about complex and sensitive contract and commercial law matters.
• Capacity to successfully manage legal projects within agreed timeframes and requirements.
• Highly developed research, negotiation and interpersonal skills, with proven ability to successfully communicate in both oral and written forms, and to network and consult across all levels of government and industry.
• Comprehensive understanding, or ability to quickly acquire, of the issues and emerging trends relevant to the department and the implications of these for government legal practice in relation to contractual and commercial law matters.
• Ability to work in a small and dynamic team, with a willingness to be involved in a broad range of matters, to support team members and the work of the department more broadly.

As part of this role, you will:
• Provide superior level strategic, independent and professional legal advice and documentation to all levels of the department with a focus on contractual and commercial law matters including ICT contracts.
• Ensure contemporary legal issues are identified and applied effectively when advising on government policies and initiatives
• Facilitate and manage development of efficient and effective policy and legislative frameworks for the department.
• Facilitate and manage projects in a range of research, policy development, legislative development and evaluation activities, in accordance with best practice.
• Develop professional and positive working relationships with internal stakeholders across the department and external stakeholders such as Crown Law and legal panel firms
