Court Support Officer - Atsils Brisbane - Indigenous Candidates

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Service Qld
Brisbane Full-day Full-time

Description:

For Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander candidates only.

Essential to our service is the Court Support Officer role. Across Queensland we have around 50 Court Support Officers including our amazing Field Officers (remote locations) who are the crucial link between our clients and Legal Practitioner's.

Join our Brisbane Team as a Court Support Officer. Candidates will have a keen interest in Criminal Law, Social Justice and supporting our Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander clients.

  • Aid clients prepare for Court (Criminal Law support);
  • Help with paperwork, legal forms, court documents, data entry;
  • Communicate between our Legal Practitioners and our clients;
  • Drive our car, sometimes outside of the Brisbane Metropolitan area to communities to assist our Legal Practitioners and clients;
  • Contribute to our 24/7 after-hours on-call service by roster (which is why you're paid well above the Award; primarily phone services).

Being a steady role model to community members is an ideal quality, as is an understanding of our clients' rights in seeking justice. See www.atsils.org.au for our Fact Sheets to prepare.

You need to be a steady driver, reliable, and resilient. Computer skills are essential. We offer a strong opportunity to make a different for our people entering the criminal justice system. You do not need to be studying law or justice to do a great job here with us. Prompt commencement is ideal.

While you are not required to carry a current Queensland Government Blue Card to work with ATSILS as a Court Support Officer, you are required to have a current National Police Criminal Record check prior to commencing work with our people or accessing any client file, database record or attending Court.

(ATSILS claims exemption under the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Act, Sections 25 (Genuine Occupational Requirement) and 104 (Welfare) in the identification of this role for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates).
