Who we are
The Animal Health Policy Branch works with government and industry stakeholders to lead, influence and coordinate animal (including aquatic animal) health and marine pest policies and programs to mitigate the potential impact of pests and diseases on Australia's animal, human and environmental health. The branch does this by strengthening national prevention, preparedness, detection and response capabilities.
The Aquatic Pest and Health Policy Section leads and co-ordinates national policy and program development for significant marine pest and aquatic animal health issues; contributes to enhanced marine pest and aquatic animal disease emergency preparedness and response; and provides leadership in international and regional marine pest and aquatic animal health activities.
The Job
We are seeking experienced and motivated individuals who can work effectively in a dynamic and responsive team with a high level of responsibility for business and corporate activities and engagement with government agencies, industries and international stakeholders. Policy Officer roles will include:
- Providing secretariat support to national committees, sub-committees and working groups relevant to aquatic animal health and marine pest policy, laboratory standards and capabilities, and preparedness and emergency animal disease and marine pest responses.
- Management of projects and activities within the branch and with external clients and suppliers including procurement and grant management.
- Providing leadership and technical support in the development and implementation of policies, programs and projects relevant to aquatic animal health and marine pest biosecurity.
- Engaging and building positive relationships with industry organisations, animal health experts, government and non-government organisations.
- Developing and promoting clear and concise communication materials tailored to a range of stakeholders.
- Preparation of briefings, correspondence, reports, and media releases.
What are we looking for
Knowledge and experience The following will be well regarded:
- Knowledge of Australia’s production animal (including aquatic animal) industries, aquatic biosecurity, marine biology, ecology or conservation.
- Knowledge or experience in developing and implementing policies, programs and projects.
- Experience facilitating committees, sub-committees and working groups including providing secretariat support.
- Experience in developing and delivering plans, programs and projects which support strategic objectives.
- Experience communicating scientific or policy information to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience working with a range of internal and external stakeholders to achieve results.
