About the role
The Technical Officer (Plant Biosecurity) will contribute to the Tasmanian Biosecurity System by supporting professional entomology and plant pathology staff in the provision of diagnostic services, surveillance services, scientific data and advisory services.
- Process and screen plant biosecurity submissions for various clients including operational staff, plant production industries, scientists and researchers.
- Undertake early detection diagnostics of samples from around the state and interstate, including plant disease and invertebrate samples.
- Work in a laboratory with a range of old and new technologies.
- Undertake field activities of pest surveillance in collaboration with operations staff.
This process will be used to fill two fixed term part-time positions in Devonport and Launceston.
Our ideal candidate has
- A Certificate III or IV in Biological or Agricultural Science or an equivalent level.
- Knowledge and skills in entomology and plant pathology, or capacity to acquire.
- Experience in laboratory diagnostic information systems and record systems.
- Ability to work as part of a team and guide less experienced staff.
