About the Role

A unique opportunity, this role is responsible for the strategic leadership of policy, research, data analysis, consultation and engagement with Carers and stakeholders to inform and influence Carers SA's policy.

This is a contract role until 30th June, 2025.

The Principal Policy and Advocacy Advisor will:

  • develop policy and practice standards within the community sector
  • enhance the positive impact of human services by ensuring the needs, interests and expertise of Carers and Carer services represent informs decisions and shapes the design and delivery of support Carers want and need
  • maximise Carers SA representation and development of the capacity of Carers and organisations who support Carers within the South Australian community
  • enhance Carers and Carer support organisations and the broader sector access to evidence-based advice, support and suggestions which drives shared purpose and effectiveness
  • improve access to appropriate training opportunities for the sector

We are looking for a candidate who has:

  • relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent minimum 10 years’ experience in public and/or social policy, social services, health care, community services or advocacy (essential)
  • extensive senior experience in strategic public and social policy
  • experience, knowledge and skills working in advocacy, engagement and public consultation including running and facilitating engagement activities, forums, focus groups, workshops and other events
  • proven skills in the management of complex projects
  • a successful track record in all forms or report writing at government state, and national level
  • experience working in and knowledge of the role of community peak organisations
  • developed and presented education and training materials, courses and programs
  • created and implemented strategies and activities to engage with hardest to reach cohorts and communities
  • knowledge of Carer rights, policy, legislation, issues, priorities and services
  • experience and skills using contemporary relevant computer software programs and digital communication platforms
  • we developed skills and experience in implementing experience, satisfaction and performance outcome public surveys

You will also need to provide:

  • National Police Clearance
  • DHS Working with Children Check
  • Be prepared to undertake Child Safe Environments – Through Their Eyes training
