About the Business Security, Emergency and Recovery ManagementSecurity, Emergency and Recovery Management (SERM) provides leadership, advice and guidance for the State's national security and emergency management governance and policy arrangements. SERM also guides the coordination and delivery of whole of Government recovery interventions across a disaster event. They support both the immediate operational and the longerterm considerations and consequences of the disaster event through recovery program planning. SERM advises and supports the Premier through the Emergency Management Act 2004, supports the Chief Executive as Chair of the State Emergency Management Committee (SEMC), supports the SEMC in achieving their strategic directions and legislated requirements, is the custodian of the State Emergency Management Plan, represents South Australia on national committees and oversees the SA Government protective security policy.

The Principal Policy Officer develops, implements and provides advice on complex policy initiatives and significant projects/programs related to emergency management, recovery, disaster funding and security issues, in collaboration with key stakeholders. While focusing on a particular policy area (governance or disaster funding), they are required to support broader team priorities and lead/support operational activities as needed. The officer will have the opportunity to work on significant recovery programs for the SA community, support the State Crisis Centre during significant events and prepare briefings on national issues.
Special Conditions- The Incumbent will be required to participate in the department's Performance Management Program.
- The Incumbent may be assigned to another position at this remuneration level or equivalent.
- Some work outside of normal hours will be required.
- Some interstate travel involving overnight absences will be required.
- This role requires a National Criminal History check.
- The incumbent may be required to participate in the State Crisis Centre and recovery operations, including being oncall and working on a roster, and required to gain a National Security Clearance up to Negative Vetting Level 1.
