Looking for Support Worker who are able to support weekend respite, overnight shifts after-school care.
About the role:
The role of the Support Worker is to develop a structured and trusted relationship between themselves and the child or young person they are working with. This relationship should be empowering for the child or young person and support them to achieve their recreation, social, life, development and other goals.
An additional expectation of this role is to provide support which enhances foster care placements through providing activities outside of the home, allowing the foster carer time away from direct supervision of the child or young person.
This is a Casual role - no minimum/maximum workday/hours per week opportunity based in West Perth, WA within our Out of Home Care Program. The position reports to the Out of Home Care Coordinator.
Key Selection Criteria:
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Relevant vocational qualifications in Community Services, Disability, Individual Support or similar desired.
- Demonstrated ability to relate to and work with children and young people with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties and who have experienced significant trauma.
- Demonstrated experience working therapeutically with children and young people with a disability, challenging behaviours and/or complex needs, through a trauma informed approach.
- A knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and values and an awareness of the current issues faced by Aboriginal children, young people and their families.
- A knowledge and understanding the impact of trauma for children in care, and how that might be enacted.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and constructively within teams of peers, staff and other stakeholders, as well as initiative and effective personal judgement when working alone.

You must have a:
- Valid and current Driver’s Licence;
- Satisfactory Criminal History Check (paid for by MacKillop);
- Valid Employee Working with Children Check;
