The opportunity
This is a new role within the Earth & Environment business group to grow and lead our Environmental Planning and Approvals capability in the WA market. This role provides a unique and attractive opportunity for an enthusiastic and driven candidate to influence and grow a team at the inception of our next three-year strategic cycle.
You’ll be based in our Perth office with the option to work from home up to 2 days per week for a great work-life balance.
This senior role reports to our national Director of Ecology and Environmental Approvals who is based in Sydney, and will balance work-winning in WA, staff recruitment and development, and the technical delivery of environmental approval and planning projects for projects in the mining, transport, water, power/renewables, defence, and property sectors.
While we are in this deliberate and strategic growth phase, your time will be split as follows:
- Project Leadership/Delivery: 60%
- Client Relationship Management/Business Development: 30%
- Mentoring/Coaching/Training: 10%
In more detail, you will:
- Lead and deliver environmental assessment, planning and approvals projects, in a range of growth sectors including mining, transport, water, power/renewables, Defence and property sectors
- Foster and grow a high-performing, engaged and client-centric team with a focus on mentoring and development
- Lead the growth and revenue targets for our Environmental Approvals team in WA
- Maintain a strong market presence through client-facing activities
- Promote collaboration within the broader WSP business, leveraging current client connections and projects to develop new opportunities for the Environmental Approvals discipline team
About you
You're likely to have 15+ years of experience in planning and environmental approvals, and you are a collaborative environmental professional with a strong strategic and growth mindset.
In addition, you bring the following skills and attributes:
- A thorough understanding of WA's environmental assessment and approvals framework
- Project management skills in coordinating multidisciplinary projects and fostering client relationships
- Demonstrated team leadership, development and growth
- Demonstrated leadership in multi-disciplinary proposals and commercial negotiations, including experience leading pursuits and bidding large environmental projects
- Excellent business acumen and understanding of market trends
- Self-aware and service-oriented, and a catalyst for change
