Principal Disciplinary Officer - Disciplinary Action Unit team, Fair Trading

Grade : Clerk Grade 9/10
Salary range : $125,693 – $138,510 + superannuation and leave loading
Duration : Ongoing

Location : Parramatta, hybrid working arrangement, 2-3 days per week office attendance required.
An exciting opportunity has arisen within NSW Fair Trading’s Disciplinary Action Unit for a Principal Disciplinary Officer. This role will suit a lawyer or policy officer with practical experience or a person who has deep skills in statutory analysis and drafting. This position carries out processes to initiate and conclude disciplinary proceedings under the legislation administered by NSW Fair Trading.

Your day-to-day

  • Reviewing briefs of evidence and submissions to make recommendations for disciplinary action
  • Preparing and reviewing Notices to Show Cause and Decisions about whether to take disciplinary action
  • Providing instructions to legal officers and counsel in matters that are appealed to the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal (and other courts and tribunals) including reviewing section 58 documents, written submissions and other relevant evidence
  • Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders including investigators, inspectors, legal officers, counsel and the executive
  • Supervising and managing a small team

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate

  • Legal qualifications or other relevant experience including the ability to understand legislation and apply it
  • An understanding of or experience in reviewing investigation reports and evidence
  • Excellent drafting skills with a strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Knowledge of the principles of procedural fairness and natural justice
  • Experience in using Microsoft Office 365 and Adobe products
