How will I help?

As a Portfolio Risk Director at Westpac, you will play a pivotal role in leading the risk and regulatory risk team. You will be responsible for implementing and embedding robust risk management frameworks, policies, and controls across various programs within the Consumer Division. Your expertise will ensure a consistent and prioritised approach, aligning with the Group’s policies, frameworks, and regulatory expectations. By delivering comprehensive risk management solutions, you will help safeguard our operations and support our commitment to regulatory compliance and excellence.

Reporting to the Head of Risk & Regulatory Portfolio Delivery, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Portfolio Risk Management:
    • Align project risk management practices with frameworks, guidelines, policies, risk strategy, regulatory obligations, and Group appetite.
  • Reporting risk impacts of change initiatives across the Consumer Division Risk & Reg portfolio.
  • Regulatory Integration: Identification and monitoring of adherence to regulatory obligations, by ensuring obligations are considered through scope design, amendments and change requests.
  • Risk in Change: Assessment of delivered risk from each program in the Risk and Regulatory Delivery Program (and broader COO Programs), including coordination with Lines of Business (LOB) BCM teams and facilitation of required risk deliverables.
  • Risk Advice: Guidance, assessment and advice on inherent and emerging risks in each program.
  • Control Optimisation: Promotion of automated preventative controls where possible.
  • Centre of Excellence (CoE): Develop and embed CoE risk practices for the Consumer COO Risk & Regulatory Delivery portfolio as well as LoB R&R proof points. Collaborate with LOBs and Value Chain Management (VCM) Hubs to ensure consistency, efficiency, and regulatory alignment.
  • Risk Culture: Supporta strong risk culture within Risk & Reg Portfolio, including self-raising of issues and incidents. Uphold ethics and integrity while balancing commercial and customer needs.

What do I need?

To excel as a Portfolio Risk Director at Westpac, you will need a strong background in risk management, particularly in managing and monitoring Level 2 and Level 4 risk taxonomies within a Risk & Regulatory Portfolio. You should have extensive experience in investment risk oversight and a deep understanding of regulatory requirements. Exceptional communication skills are essential, as you will be responsible for articulating the overarching risk position of the Consumer Division Risk & Regulatory portfolio to senior stakeholders. A strategic mindset, coupled with the ability to influence and drive risk-aware decision-making, will be crucial for success in this role.

You will also need:

  • Proactive Risk Management: Expertise in driving the Risk in Change capability of the portfolio with proactive management of delivery risk through change execution.
  • Policy and Framework Knowledge: In-depth understanding of policy, framework, standard, and Target Operating Model changes, and the ability to provide the central Consumer Division voice of risk for the Risk & Regulatory portfolio.
  • Collaboration Skills: Experience working with Line 1 LOB BCM and Line 2 Risk and Compliance teams to ensure support on changes for the Risk & Regulatory portfolio.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to provide input into the quality of JUNO records and updates to drive a risk-focused culture where required.
  • Coaching and Support: Capability to coach and support the business to build greater risk awareness and capability.
  • Control Environment Knowledge: Proficiency in enabling the effective assessment of delivered risks, as well as designing and implementing controls to manage risk through knowledge of the control environment.
  • Stakeholder Partnership: Strong ability to partner with stakeholders to identify and enable more efficient and effective risk practices in the business.

These skills and experiences will ensure you can effectively manage and mitigate risks within the Consumer Division Risk & Regulatory portfolio, driving a culture of risk awareness and proactive risk management.
