Ipswich State High School is on the lookout for a dynamic Industry and Vocational Training Officer to join our innovative Career Pathways Team. This position reports directly to the Head of Department VET and Deputy Principal. In this role, you'll be at the heart of shaping the future of education by assisting our students engage in pathway placements and experiences to give an insight to career pathway choices. Your expertise will empower both students and staff, enhancing the learning environment and driving success across the school. Ipswich State High School is located in Brassall, with an enrolment of 1800 students and 200 staff.

About Us

The Ipswich State High School is one of the largest school-based Registered Training Organisations in Queensland, offering over 30 nationally recognised certificate courses, but was also acknowledged in 2019 as the most successful school RTO in the State by the Minister for Employment and Small Business and Minister for Training and Skills Development, Shannon Fentiman.

Ipswich State High School is the home of the $5 million Ipswich Regional Trade Training Centre, and the $10 million X Block Performing Arts Centre. In 2021 we will be opening a new, state of the art STEM centre, partnering with kitsunei to deliver 21st century learnings in coding and robotics.

We are the only school in the Metropolitan Region offering a Cert I, Cert II and Cert III dance qualifications and the QCAA General Dance courses.

About The Role

Responsibilities may include a mix of the following activities:

  • Actively engage with industry and business to source School Based Apprenticeship and Traineeship opportunities for prospective students and seek opportunities for student placement in industry.
  • Develop engagement activities and market the benefits of School Based Traineeships, Apprenticeships and TAFE training as a career pathway preference for students at the nominated State High School/College.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with employers, training providers and apprenticeship support agencies.
  • Provide the Principal/Deputy Principal with a regular update of the program outcomes and identify issues that may impact on the success of the program.
  • Undertake the development and coordination of high profile events within the school community and take a lead in the marketing of industry liaison events.
  • Maintain currency of knowledge of the legislation relevant to the School Based Traineeships and Apprenticeship program.
  • Coordinate work experience for year 10 students including support in organising placements, risk assessments, paperwork, sight visits etc
  • Tracking of students doing external VET qualifications, including their attendance at TAFE and progress
  • Working with students who are at risk of not completing VET qualifications
  • Promotion of VET opportunities then support/organisation for students (application process for students wanting to do external VET)
  • Building Relationships with external providers (build these for work experience opportunities, as guest speakers to come in and work with students, to come to career expos etc)
  • Creating Trade experience days for students in the trades we don't offer onsite i.e. Wet trade days, automotive etc (especially in the year 9 and 10 space)
  • Organising career expos etc, manning VET desk at information evenings
  • Organising excursions for career and trade related activities (i.e career expo, try a trade days etc)
  • USI tracking and follow up
  • VETiS database tracking of students (who has used their funding and who hasn't, and what can we do to support kids who haven't to use it externally)
  • Increasing VET opportunities in year 10, especially for our students who will be ATAR eligible in year 11/12 and not able to go do TAFE etc
  • VET data entry into OneSchool
