Role: Payroll Officer
Reports to: Group Financial Controller
Role Overview:
The Payroll Officer is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payroll across multiple regions, maintaining compliance with tax regulations, and supporting project accounting functions. This role involves managing payroll tax obligations, reconciling payroll data, and collaborating with external payroll providers.
Responsibilities:
Payroll
- Process PAYG withholding and superannuation contributions.
- Manage payroll tax in coordination with the Senior Financial Accountant.
- Oversee Workcover management, including vendor coordination and processing.
- Process payroll accurately and timely for Australia.
- Prepare and gather data for overseas outsourced payroll providers for monthly payroll.
- Administer payroll processing for Australia (via Xero), US (via ADP), New Zealand, Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, and the UK in collaboration with external agents.
- Address payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies.
- Reconcile payroll source data from various regions in the accounting system.
- Ensure compliance with payroll regulations and tax laws.
- Manage leave reconciliation for multiple regions.
- Research and analyse exit terms/costs for all payroll firms.
- Process payroll-related journals.
Tax
- Maintain and prepare tax supporting files.
- Submit payment requests for taxes.
- Collaborate with regional external partners to prepare tax-related reports.
- Maintain and monitor Job Keeper claims and supporting paperwork.
Project Accounting
- Update Xero for tracking codes by adding new projects.
- Establish and maintain a project profitability reporting system.
General Accounting Support
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
- Prepare and maintain accurate financial records and documentation.
- Collaborate with the finance team to improve processes and efficiencies.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in payroll processing and tax compliance.
- Proficiency in payroll software such as Xero.
- Strong understanding of tax regulations and payroll laws across multiple regions.
- Experience in financial reconciliation and reporting.
- High attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
