About the Role
Join the Coal Executive Team and take on the outstanding opportunity as the Head of Coal Customers.
This Brisbane based role offers the opportunity to blend leadership with strategic commercial responsibilities, leading a team of Customer Account Executives and commercial functions overseeing a portfolio of high-value coal customers with an annual revenue portfolio exceeding $1 Billion.
You will be responsible for fostering productive and trusting long-term partnerships, developing new business, managing Coal’s multi-year contract book, customer relationship and order management, commercial analytics and access management.
Reporting directly to Ed McKeiver and being an integral senior member of the Coal ELT, you will play a key role in shaping the business unit’s strategy, ensuring agility and flexibility to capture future opportunities, mitigate risk and provide a competitive edge for our customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute short to long term customer account management strategies and tactics to enhance satisfaction, retention, and business growth.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless service delivery and complex issue resolution.
- Advise and influence enterprise-wide strategic and operational decision-making to drive business performance with a forward-looking, commercial mindset.
- Manage Coal’s revenue streams and contract portfolio to maximise yield, resource allocation and financial performance.
- Build and strengthen key relationships both internally and externally to enhance Aurizon’s reputation and drive successful strategy execution.
- Drive revenue growth and profitability, with a focus on increasing EBITDA.
- Lead senior-level customer engagement, acting as the key escalation point for relationships and negotiations.
- Identify and capitalize on business opportunities, including brownfield expansions and new customer acquisitions on existing networks.
About You
As a strategic and accomplished commercial leader, you will bring exceptional communication and relationship management skills, a deep understanding of the rail industry, the market for Coal Haulage and the ability to drive commercial success through strategic thinking, influencing and proactive problem-solving.
Key Qualifications & Experience:
- Undergraduate Degree within a Business, Accounting, Legal or similar discipline, Post Graduate qualifications well regarded.
- 10+ years of experience in a related field, with a proven track record in strategic commercial leadership.
- Proven track record in commercial and customer-facing roles within the rail, logistics, or supply chain sectors.
- Multidisciplinary Problem-Solver – Ability to tackle complex challenges through a broad and integrated perspective.
- Team Leadership Excellence – Proven ability to build, lead, and develop high-performing teams.
- Strong ability to interpret data, draw insights, and drive informed decision-making.
- Expertise in complex negotiations, stakeholder engagement, and high-level consultation.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills including public speaking
