Job Description:

Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Signalling Onboard Commissioning Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Brisbane, Australia .

Key responsibilities:

  • Participating in the testing and commissioning of on-board, trackside, communications and control systems

  • Perform both factory and site testing

  • Participating in fault identification during set to work activities and during commissioning

  • Supporting the engineering team by carrying out correlation of existing installations to verify the design inputs match the installation

  • Verifying the design against wiring diagrams, equipment layouts and cable plans

  • Supporting the timely production of Test Plans, Procedures and Reports at the project level

  • Supporting the continuous improvement of project documentation

  • Supporting the Construction team where required including

    • Wiring and termination of equipment wiring either on-board trains, in trackside locations, in communications locations or in control centres.

    • Installation of signalling equipment and cables for on-board, trackside, communications and control centre applications.

  • Ensure that the test and commissioning activities are executed in alignment with the Work, Health and Safety requirements of the company and the project

  • Supporting the evaluation of the performance of assigned resources, identifying the need for additional resource with project justification and identifying training needs

Key knowledge and experience:

  • Electrical Trade qualification (i.e. Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician) is essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or similar field, including RPEQ, is desirable

  • 2-5 years' experience in a similar role, preferably in the Rail Signal industry with demonstrated capability and skills in:

    • Electrical equipment and high-risk environments

    • Use of Test equipment (e.g. Digital and Analog multi-meters, insulation meters, etc.)

    • Use of Computer based test software

    • Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite

    • Knowledge of Incident/accident investigation

    • Knowledge of ERP and Configuration Management tools

    • Knowledge of Database tools

    • Knowledge of budgeting and cost estimation
