Position summary

Tangentyere Constructions, a subsidiary of Tangentyere Council, is a professional building contractor. Tangentyere Constructions promotes self-determination and community control in the construction industry.

Tangentyere Constructions delivers new construction projects, renovations, trade repairs and maintenance work on the Alice Springs Town Camps some Remote Communities.

Skilled Labourers are fundamental to the effectiveness of any construction project, allowing trades to complete their work efficiently and on time.

The primary function of the skilled labourer/operator position is to carry out construction related labouring work, and Trade’s Assistant duties as required across all Tangentyere Constructions’ projects. It also requires the necessary skills to operate basic plant and equipment.

The position requires the ability to work with limited on-site supervision and requires a high degree of experience, self-motivation, and initiative.

Responsibilities

• To work as directed to ensure the smooth completion of construction projects.

• To use experience to evaluate tasks and report to supervisor where required.

• Operate minor plant and equipment

• Undertake minor repairs and maintenance.

• Report work that requires trade qualified repairs and maintenance to the Team Leader

• Record, document and photograph all requests, work undertaken, and material used.

• Observe and maintain Occupational Health and Safety.

• Assist with achieving quality management objectives across the organisation.

• Assist with achieving safeguarding objectives across the organisation.

• Assist with achieving compliance objectives across the organisation.

• Other reasonable duties as required.

Qualifications and Selection Criteria

Required

• Good spoken and written English.

• Ability to work as part of a team and to follow directions.

• Ability to work onsite without a supervisor present at times.

• Ability and willingness to read and follow policies, procedures, and plans.

• Previous building; repairs and maintenance; or essential services work.

• Ability to obtain a White Card.

• Current NT Drivers Licence, Ochre Card, satisfactory Police Check and proof of full vaccination against COVID-19.

Desired

• Ability to speak one or more local languages.

• Certificate and/or training in building and construction.
