Organisation Overview

The Melbourne Arts Precinct Corporate (MAP Co) is the State Government agency responsible for overseeing the delivery of the Melbourne Arts Precinct (MAPT) project as well as the operations, programming, promotion and maintenance of Fed Square.

MAP Co is overseeing the delivery of the $1.7 billion Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation project that includes, The Fox: NGV Contemporary, a new gallery dedicated to contemporary art and design; Laak Boorndap, the 18,000 square metre public open space in the heart of the precinct; as well as significant upgrades to Arts Centre Melbourne and its historic State Theatre.

It also takes on the management and operations of Fed Square and is responsible for connecting a single continuous art, civic, and cultural precinct stretching from Fed Square through Southbank.

Once the transformation is complete, MAP Co will also manage and activate Laak Boorndap, the urban garden that will connect the Melbourne Arts Precinct in a seamless and immersive cultural experience.

Fed Square is the gateway to the art precinct – and as Melbourne's public square it is the civic, cultural and community heart of the city. It home to three of Victoria's major cultural institutions: ACMI – Australia's Museum of Screen Culture, the Koorie Heritage Trust (KHT) and The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia along with an array of restaurants and cafes. Located opposite the iconic Flinders St Station, it is Melbourne's premier meeting place, tourist destination and event venue for thousands of free events every year.

About the role

The Venue Supervisor serves as a dedicated ambassador, consistently representing Fed Square to the public and actively contributing to the continual improvement of Fed Square's image as a prominent landmark and sought-after tourist destination - the "Face of Fed Square."

The payrate for the Venue Supervisor role is $38.87 per hour plus 25% loading.

The Venue Supervisors have the following responsibilities:

  • Provide on-site venue and event supervision in accordance with policies and event documentation. Adapt plans as needed to manage crowd flow, egress, vehicle traffic, accessibility, and unexpected challenges.
  • Regularly patrol the precinct as a supervising duty manager to ensure the seamless and timely execution of events, activities, and site operations. Ensure adequate support and safety measures are in place.
  • Assist in the final-stage event delivery planning by liaising with internal and external stakeholders and preparing necessary team documentation. Proficiency in event planning software, such as Momentus (EBMS), Microsoft Teams, Risk Manager, Link Safe, and Outlook, is essential.
  • Act as the primary on-ground venue contact for all internal and external event stakeholders. Provide supervision and support for extended venue operations and maintain effective communication.
  • Minimise the impact of event activities on precinct tenants through proactive support and on-ground communication.
  • Ensure compliance with event documentation, including OH&S regulations, site plans, technical specifications and if required, test and tag equipment. Collaborate with clients to find solutions to meet their requirements.
  • Execute set up including tablecloths, furniture, signage, and report and maintain inventory within storage areas.
  • Liaise with and support emergency services and act as venue wardens as directed.
  • Provide support to security and facilities management as needed, including weekends and after-hours shifts.
  • Coordinate and debrief with internal and external stakeholders as necessary.
  • Operate buggies, forklifts, and other specialised vehicles to transport equipment and assist in event set up and pack down.
  • Any other duties as requested by your manager or delegated member.

Position Specific Requirements

This role will be rostered to work outside of ordinary hours on a regular basis, which will include early mornings, evenings and weekend work.
