The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry is the lead government agency for the agriculture sector (the agriculture, fisheries and forestry industries) in Australia.

Digital Services Division (DSD) is responsible for enabling Information and Communication Technology (ICT) functions and activities in the department. The division provides a secure, modern ICT environment to enable the department’s business groups to conduct business 24/7 and achieve departmental outcomes. DSD staff work collaboratively across the department, taking advantage of advances in technology to deliver end-to-end services and solutions that are nationally consistent and deliver organisational benefits. As a trusted ICT provider, DSD works collaboratively with business groups to develop innovative digital solutions for businesses whilst providing reliable and secure operational ICT services.
DSD provides capability across the ICT operational spectrum including technology infrastructure and cloud, applications development and support, cyber security services, enterprise platforms support, ICT procurement and vendor management, project planning and delivery, ICT architecture and governance.
The Job
As Chief Information Officer you will provide strategic leadership in driving the department’s ICT transformation agenda and be responsible for ensuring the effective operation and performance of all departmental ICT services. You will be responsible for aligning initiatives with the department’s business strategy to enhance service delivery, efficiency and innovation.
You will be expected to determine how to achieve the above results through adaptation and development of ICT solutions through analytical, interpretive, evaluative, creative and innovative thinking to provide exceptional service to end users.
You will support our ambitious and forward-looking reform agenda by leading the ICT transformation. This includes developing a strong ICT capability to support our workforce needs while also building capability required to achieve departmental priorities and outcomes. In a rapidly changing and increasingly contested global operating environment, you will play a vital role in developing and embedding ICT strategies, practices and policies to support a contemporary, agile and responsive ICT enabling service.
As Chief Information Officer and a key member of the department’s Executive team, you will be a high performing executive who can lead a complex work program and contribute to the leadership of the department through active involvement in executive decision-making, representational activities and working collaboratively to provide strategic direction and drive a culture of high performance.
To be a strong contender you will be able to establish strong networks with a broad range of stakeholders and you will have outstanding leadership skills. You will also have a demonstrated record of achievement, excellent interpersonal skills and sound judgement.
Emphasis will be placed on candidates with the requisite technical knowledge and experience as well as strong people skills, both in terms of managing people within the Division and working with other parts of the Department and external bodies.
What we are looking for
To be successful in the role you will need to meet the Senior Executive Service capability for the SES Band 2 level, and you will have the following:

This position requires a Negative Vetting 2 security clearance. The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at the appropriate level for this position.
