What is the opportunity?
RBC Capital Markets Industrials & Financial Sponsors Investment Banking team is looking for an Associate for our Sydney office. This is a coverage role where you will gain experience working with private equity firms, ASX listed companies and unlisted clients across a range of sub-sectors including Healthcare, Consumer Retail and General Industrials. The candidate will have the opportunity to learn technical and soft skills as part of an established and growing team.
Mandate includes listed and unlisted buy-side and sell-side M&A, takeover defence, public and private equity raisings, and investment grade and leveraged debt financing. The wide range of the industries we cover provides an exceptional opportunity to learn as a generalist and then specialize as you progress your career with RBC Capital Markets. In the role, you will work with Private Equity and Corporate clients, as well as relevant internal product banking teams (LevFin, ECM, Corporate Banking, Risk Solutions, etc.). Our Sydney team also works closely with our relevant sector teams in Canada, the US, the UK and Europe to leverage institutional expertise across our target sectors.
What will you do?
- Transaction execution, new business presentations and meetings, and other such duties
- Developing and reviewing financial models, conducting research and analysing data to assist senior team members to advise clients
- Analytical, due diligence and transactional support on transactions and business development
- Work with the team in the development of pitch books and related client materials
- Review and comply with Firm Policies applicable to your business activities
- Proactively identify and escalate operational risk loss events, control deficiencies and risks to your line manager and the relevant risk and control functions promptly
- Begin gaining skills to develop relationships with peers / juniors at clients, begin understanding how to develop business opportunities
- Other such duties, responsibilities and authority as may be reasonably required, consistent with your background, experience and prior business activity
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
- Minimum 3-4 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in Investment Banking, management consulting, law, Big 4 accounting (modeling, FDD, M&A)
- Bachelor’s degree required; commerce/law preferred. Other degrees also of interest if relevant to our coverage universe, but strong foundations in corporate finance are essential
- Knowledge of and willingness to learn about all investment banking products including M&A, equity, debt, and convertible securities
- Outstanding quantitative and qualitative analytical skills; strong knowledge of finance and accounting
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to multi-task, manage conflicting priorities and prioritise deliverables
- Team player mentality with the ability to work independently
- Strong written and oral communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills with ability to create and maintain relationships at all levels of the organisation
- Must maintain high standards of professional and ethical conduct
